Come and enjoy the 4th annual Italian Day on Commercial Drive! Inspired by a traditional Venetian Carnevale that was first recorded in 1268, the origins of this celebration form an integral part of the Christian calendar as a special time before Lent (a period of fasting). The purpose of this celebration is the representation of freedom, amusement and festivities for everyone. Masks wearing was introduced to break social barriers and in some ways create an equalization among the classes. During the late 18th century, Venice halted their celebrations when they came under Austrian rule in 1798 and was resumed again in 1979.
Start & End: Please arrive at the designated space at 11:45am. The festivities begin at 12pm and end at 8pm.
How to find us: I will be standing outside the "Womyn's Ware" shop at Commercial Drive x Venables Street. Please be aware that there are many roadblocks throughout the Commercial Drive area (refer to roadblock map link below), so plan your trip well so you are not, if you're driving, circling everywhere to find a parking spot. Transit may be a bit tricky too. I recommend that you call Translink and plan ahead - at least a week before.
I can say right now that if you're going either east or west on Hastings via transit, your best option would be to get off at Hastings x Commercial and walk a few blocks south until you reach "Womyn's Wear". Please keep in mind that the shop is at the boundary of the Commercial Drive x Venables roadblock.

My phone number: I don't normally like giving it out, but if you think that you need it you can email me with your number and I'll give you mine. The only catch is don't give out my number without my permission! Thanks.

What is the cost: No price is indicated and the festival is a public street celebration, so my good guess is that the darn thing is free to attend! However, if you choose to buy food and drink and whatever else that will be left up to you.
What is the plan: Generally, I like everyone to stick together. If, for some reason, you decide to split from the group to check on something different you may do so, but you must agree upon a meeting place and time before you go!
If you bring family member or children you are responsible for them.
People can choose to leave whenever they like on one condition: let me know so I don't waste time looking for you! Thanks.
Optional Gelato: Down some ways via west on 1033 Venables Street x Glen Drive is this kickass Italian Gelato place, "La Casa Gelato." I cannot say for certain whether they will be open or not, but if we cannot score any Gelato at the festival we can certainly walk (burn off some Italian food) down Venables Street - or close to it, depending on roadblocks.
Waiver: The host, group, Italian Day Festival Society, masked Venetians, festival staff and associates are not responsible in any way for attending members. Members who RSVP YES for this event are solely and totally responsible for their own personal safety and well being before, during and at any time after the conclusion of this event. The host, group, Italian Day Festival Society, masked Venetians, festival staff and associates shall be held harmless and shall be unconditionally free forever of any and all liabilities, obligations and responsibilities to any of the attendees, guests and all third party individuals, relatives and representatives.
