Fire - a magnificent creation at the dawn of time. Light kills darkness and gives birth to sight into the realms of our wildest imagination. Our planet gave us these beautiful things and now it has been harnessed for our enjoyment this summer. Join me along the shores of Trout Lake to partake and become enthralled with the majesty of lanterns and fire! ENTER ILLUMINARES!!!
When: We will meet at 7:30pm. The festival illuminates at 6pm and extinguishes at approximately 10:30pm (grand finale). You can leave at any time.
***Please note: I won't be waiting for any latecomers. The group and I will be promptly moving into the festival grounds at 7:30pm. If you feel that you won't be on time, you can still come but you will have to look for us within the festival grounds as we will likely be scattered, looking and doing various things.
Where: Around Trout Lake in John Hendry Park in Vancouver.
How to find us: I will be standing at the entrance or around the Trout Lake Community Centre. Read below for imperative details!
***IMPORTANT: Due to the high volume of people coming to this public event, the location will be crowded and even difficult to get to by vehicle. Parking will be severely limited (NO parking at the community centre) and attendees will have to park and walk a distance away to get to the location. You may get lucky and score a parking spot closer to, but don't bet on it.
Public Dreams recommends attendees to travel by transit and by foot. The location is close to the Broadway Station.
Traveling Back: I will be coming by transit and would appreciate it if anyone who is traveling in the direction of Burnaby to let me accompany you. Please let me know if you are so we can walk back together. Thank you!
PARADE & FIRE SHOW: Pay close attention to this: the festival has a kickass lantern parade from 9:30pm to 10:30pm. This parade will start at the north end of the lake, and proceed around the lake counter-clockwise to end at an amazing fire show in the north-east corner of the park! THIS IS A MUST SEE!!!
Food & Drink: I was told by Public Dreams that there will be various concession stands and vendors selling their wares as well as refreshments throughout the location.
Cancellations: This event will be cancelled if it rains.
What to bring: Even though it is summer, it is advisable to bring a jacket and dress appropriately for the night. I also recommend that attendees bring a flashlight or even a lantern, if you like as the location will still be dark in areas.
Host Expectations: As it will be nighttime, I don't have problems with some members staying close by, in fact I encourage it for this type of setting. However, I am not a professional and will be encouraging attendees to wonder about freely as this is an "organic", loose event that is not strict and linear. In other words, if you choose to eat something and I, the host, chooses to listen to music then I won't hold you against your will. At the same time, we're all adults and I won't be your guide in this event as I do intend to have a good time as well. You are more than welcome to hang around with me, just please refrain from being clingy and go without any expectations in your mind. Remember, the main objective of this event and any festival event is to have fun, and that goes for the host as well!
***If you decide to bring family members or children you are responsible for them!
