IMPORTANT: Toonie Tuesdays are always madness, and now that school is out you can be assured those young gremlins will be at the theatre early too! I was told by the Dolphin Theatre manager that anyone who wishes to see the last day's showing of "Man of Steel" MUST purchase their ticket a couple of days in advance or hours before the first showing on the day of the event. We also need to arrive early as well!
Since I was given an extra day off work for Canada Day, and I heard that its supposed to be a hot week, I've decided to incorporate a $2 movie and an adventure to the Glenburn Soda Factory and Confectionery to cool off! Please pay close attention to the special important note above and our schedule below. Thank you!
Schedule: We will begin our first adventure by watching "Man of Steel". On the event date, I was informed by the theatre manager that the Dolphin will be implementing their summer hours. That being said, viewings start earlier. He also advised me to let everyone know and be aware of some important details listed above in the bold red section. That's right, you need to purchase your ticket ahead of time. Here is the plan:
- Arrive no later than 11:45am. The movie begins at 1pm. We need to arrive early to ensure seats, buy whatever, etc. Just don't be late.
- The movie is approximately 2 hours and 23 minutes. You do the math.
- After the movie, we will proceed to the Glenburn Soda Fountain and Confectionery BY FOOT. The journey will be extremely long and arduous, about 12-minutes. You are welcome to leave after the movie and not go here, but please let me know either way, or if you're planning on going to both!
- Don't blame me if you do not get a ticket or have to stand in line! I have no control over Toonie Tuesdays and the gremlins who are now out of school. Let's grin and bear it, we're adults!
- Everyone is responsible for the purchase of their own ticket and whatever they order at the soda fountain.
How to find us: We will be inside the theatre lobby beside the arcade machines.
Okay, now that we got that sorted, here are some details about the movie and the soda factory.
Movie Synopsis: A young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.
Duration: Approximately 2 hours, 23 minutes.
Cost: $2 (buy tickets days before or super early!)
Why Superman? Seemed a good idea at the time.
Okay, this is where it gets even "cooler" and exciting. This soda fountain recently opened up in the Burnaby Heights District. Do NOT rely on Googlemaps as their photo is outdated and this place won't be found. Its supposed to mimic a retro 40's soda fountain. If you still have grandparents they can vouch for this. Anyway, I've been hearing some good things about the place so let's give it a try after the movie!
Where: The soda fountain is located at 4090 Hastings Street in Burnaby. We're walking there by foot from the Dolphin Theatre. The walk should be very difficult and take us 12-minutes. Come on, if the Honey Badger can do it so can you!
