We're aware that not everyone has a car and sometimes you may have to carpool. Here's a guide to carpooling:
How to Ask for a Ride:
Just post on the event asking for a ride. Many people in our group are friendly and can offer a ride.
How to Offer a Ride?
If you can, offer a ride, and where you can meet (we usually meet at the carpool location), which can be done when you RSVP.
How to Ask for a Ride (option 2)?
If you need a ride, make a comment, when you RSVP, and that you have car pool/gas $ to contribute.
How Much to Chip in?
Most drivers are kind enough to not charge but there are some circumstances where it may be reasonable for passengers to chip in (eg. road trip to Seattle). This is usually done between the driver and the rider.
Typically drivers want their passengers to pay more than the actual cost of gas to cover wear and tear, repair & maintenance, and other expenses. It is best to collect the gas contribution at the end of the journey according to the insurance people. Why? A rider is not hiring you to drive, just contributing a share of the costs.
An assistant organizer might set a gas contribution price based on distance to travel according to how they arrange an event. This is rare, since most events are local or transit accessible. However, larger group of friends may be looking for somewhere to go and are either looking for more drivers, or to fill an empty seat or two.
