3D Printing Monthly

This group is dedicated to 3D printing technologies and design practices, and is open to anyone wanting to learn more about this quickly evolving branch of manufacturing. Our first meeting will begin with an overview on where the industry is now, what is available, and how the group wants to see this Meetup evolve.

With access to some of the area's most exciting and innovative makers, Fab Lab San Diego is your place for regular discussions and demonstrations of extrusion, stereolithography, and inkjet 3D printing. Come network, get help with calibrating your own printer, or simply check out what goes on at the Lab!

In a delta 3D printer forum a member mentioned making parts for a Raptor hand so I looked it up and it's part of the Enabling The Future group.

This really would be awesome if we can setup the Fab Lab as the POC for a group of us with 3D printers who can start building hands for those around here who can use them.

Doug, this was actually the lion's share of the discussion we had at the beginning of the Meetup. Fab Lab is already setup on ENable, and we have a couple members who have been for years and have never received a reply. I am talking to some of the Enable team on how we can better market Fab Lab as a go-to place for requests. At the meetup we discussed workflow, a request portal, and a few other logistical areas we would need to coordinate. We have two volunteers from this last meeting, and another two who have approached me in the past.

During the breakout discussions the subject of 3d printed circuits came up. I found this neat project someone has done using 3d printed boards with channels that can be filled with conductive ink/paint. check it out.

Last month there was interest about different finishes on 3D prints and the subject of electroplating came up. I'll be bringing my 3D-Printed, electroplated Darth Vader tomorrow. I'lll be revisiting this experiment soon with smoothed pieces but here are some pics of the first trial:
