Learn to shoot birds (with your camera) at Bombay Hook

Coolest place in slower Delaware!! We have been here as a group a couple of times and walked away with some amazing shots. I know that a lot of us have trouble shooting birds (focus; focus; focus!!) I am hoping that some of the masters in the group show up and give some pointers to the rest of us!!

Again, I think we should meet around 9 in the morning (it is only open from 9-3 in the weekends). Car pooling instructions will follow...

    Comment about posted Meetup disappointments.

We photographed on 5/18. I was with my wife (little point and shoot). Initially there wasn't really much activity but I love to walk and shoot. After awhile, a few greats began to mill around the large pond. We found interesting subjects using binoculars. There were many other really interesting, Color packed landscapes, waterways and woods too but we had to explore, on our own, by car and by foot.

My point is that 3 elements should be present on an outing:
    1. Be inspired
    2. Look for opportunity
    3. Patience

Yes, it's great to have help and be part of a group but in the end your best captures come from your own personal shooting, shooting and more shooting. The Meetup affords us critique from our peers so we can better our methods.

I hope my comments help a little bit in the future.

Small group and not may critters to photograph. Would like to have seen more people there.

I expected more of a "group" activity, rather than 10 minutes and then each of us getting in our cars and launching out on our own...

I am looking forward to this outing. Is there a specific place we are meeting within the Wildlife Refuge? Is there a fee to get in?

Can't make Saturday but did visit Bombay Hook on 5/18 and got some good shots. I will post after this meet up. There wasn't much activity but saw much nesting and no chicks. Males prevalent everywhere. I've posted on Facebook.

I'm not able to make 6/7 but since Bombay Hook is very close to us, I will go earlier and post after 6/7

Med to long zoom. Tripod. Binoculars are nice. RAW. Lightroom. Shoot some B/W. Hang by water and feeder. It seemed that a lot of birds were in or near water. Fuzzy found a Heron or egret in the bush as well as red tailed hawk. Many take offs and landings.

Watch this birders information site to get an idea what notable birds are being spotted in Delaware. http://birding.aba.or...

I wish I was able to attend this one. Birds is one of favorites to shoot but I will be out of town on a kayak camping trip.
