"What happens when you take a ten ton whale that's meant to travel as far as 75 miles in a day, and confine it in a tiny tank for years, deprive it of companionship and food, and force it to perform on cue day in and day out?"

The relevance of this film, in exposing the cruelty of the captive industry, cannot be understated.

Guest speakers to include: Mickey Z, Ethan Wolf, Dayna Rozental, and Emily & Rose McCoy. Please join us.

Blackfish tells the story of Tilikum, a performing killer whale that killed several people while in captivity. A compilation of shocking footage and emotional interviews explore the creature's extraordinary nature, the species' cruel treatment in captivity, the lives and losses of the trainers and the pressures brought to bear by the multi-billion dollar sea-park industry.
Emotionally wrenching, Blackfish challenges us to consider our relationship to nature revealing how little we humans have learned from these highly intelligent and enormously sentient fellow mammals.

Vegan food will be of charge
This venue is wheelchair accessible but it's bathroom is not.

    Speaker bios:
    Mickey Z
A vegan since 1995, Mickey Z. has spoken and lectured in venues ranging from MIT to ABC No Rio, from Yale University to Occupy Free University. He is the author of 12 books, including the soon-to-be-released "Occupy This Book" (Sullivan St. Press).

    Ethan Wolf
Ethan brings more than fifteen years of grassroots animal rights activism experience to Sea Shepherd’s efforts. In addition to his NYC-based fundraising and outreach work as the chapter coordinator for Sea Shepherd's NYC chapter, he has monitored and documented the horrific dolphin drives in Taiji, Japan as a Cove Guardian for Sea Shepherd's Operation Infinite Patience and the harassment of sea lion for Sea Shepherd's Operation Dam Guardian on the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest.

    Dayna Rozental
Dayna is a founding member of Sea Shepherd Conservation Society’s New York City Chapter. Since 2010, she has steered the chapter in its fundraising and outreach efforts. She has also participated in Sea Shepherd's Cove Guardian and Dam Guardian campaigns. As a Cove Guardian, she has documented the dolphin drive hunt in Taiji, Japan. As a Dam Guardian, she has observed the harassment and murder of sea lions on the Columbia River in the Pacific Northwest.

    Emily and Rose McCoy
12 yr old Rose is following in her parents' vegan, ARA footsteps. Active in animal rights demos in NYC, Emily and Rose protested the SeaWorld floats in the Macy's Parade, and at the Rose Parade, in Pasadena, CA. Their actions to bring attention to the cruelty of captivity resulted in them being arrested, for the cause, alongside several other activists who were protesting the SeaWorld float at the Rose Parade.
