Candlelight Vigil Against Bullying & Breed Discrimination Thursday, Feb. 2 @ 6:00 pm, One Lincoln Plaza, New York City, New York, NY

HOUNDED TO DEATH BY ONE LINCOLN PLAZA

Breed Discrimination in housing has become a real contentious issue in private housing in New York City. Anyone who has tried to secure an apartment, who has a companion animal who is a pit bull, can tell you just how bad a problem it is.

It was reported today that this breed discrimination led to the suicide of actor Nick Santino, who was coerced and bullied into putting his beloved rescued pit bull Rocco to death on the actor's 47th birthday. Santino was so distraught about what he had done, that he took his own life on January 27th.

What is ironic about this is that New York State has a state law against Breed Specific Legislation. How is it that condo and coop boards are not required to adhere to state law?

Oftentimes the pit bulls that we see on the NYC ACC daily Kill List are abandoned by people who are moving to places that have rules against pit bulls. The most notorious of these being NYCHA (New York City Housing Authority). This is an issue that has needed to be addressed.

Let's start by voicing our anger and our outrage to the management of the building that bullied a resident into taking the life of his dog, Rocco and then his own life. Demand that this unjust policy be rescinded immediately.
