****ATTENTION , NY/NJ area animal activists!!****

THIS SHOW HAS ALSO BEEN CANCELED!!! Join FAUN group in our mission to educate the public and expose the abusers at the Cole Brothers Circus when the caravan of cruelty rumbles into Manville, NJ in early August.

Cole Bros has the widest variety of animals among all modern circuses, enslaving and abusing creatures as variant as camels, llamas, monkeys, tigers, horses, big cats and bears, as well as traditional token exploitees: our friends the elephants. One doesn't have to be an animal rights activist to comprehend the intrinsic cruelty of taking animals from their natural habitats (or breeding them in captivity), confining them in cramped, horrible cages, conditioning them through pain, fear and a calculated program of negative reinforcement, as ALL circuses that use animals do. Elephants, bears, tigers and other sentient beings enslaved by circuses suffer immensely from captivity-related diseases, and quite often die prematurely. The animals are beaten into submission as babies and perform out of fear from the pain of the bullhooks, whips, electric prods, chains - a cornucopia of insidious instruments of negative reinforcement and torture.

***Additional Background on Cole Bros. Circus***

The Cole Bros. Circus, previously known as Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus, has categorically failed to meet minimal federal standards for the care of animals used in exhibition as established by the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has repeatedly cited Cole Bros. for failure to provide veterinary care to animals, including elephants who have shown extreme weight loss; they have also abysmally failed to provide adequate space to animals.

The USDA has  filed formal charges of AWA violations against Cole Bros. because elephants have shown signs of being abused with sharp metal bullhooks and other instruments of domination and punishment. The New Jersey Humane Society charged the circus with cruelty to animals for overloading and overworking an elephant, and two elephants—who were described as malnourished and neglected—died suddenly within a two-week period. In five separate incidents, Cole Bros. elephants have killed two members of the public, injured more than a dozen others, and rampaged during performances, which has caused tens of thousands of dollars in property damage. Click for more of Cole Bros' chronology of sordid deeds, including a very recent (Feb 2o11) fine of $150,000.00 on the head of John Pugh (company owner) for selling two very rare Asian elephants to a man who intended to use them for private parties, elephant rides, etc.

Please help us expose and fight against the ugly, retrograde manifestation of animal slavery/cruelty that is Cole Bros. Circus. FAUN will provide signs, literature, props and accoutrements, but feel free to bring your own (preferably ORIGINAL) materials if you have them. Like all circuses with animals, Cole Brothers is a horrible gaggle of thugs and criminals, help us in our efforts to work against them and toward a world where all forms of "entertainment" involving cruelty to animals are an embarrassing blight on human history.

If there are any questions about this demonstration or anything else on the FAUN calendar, send an email to: [masked] or call [masked].

Animals have rights!! Let us never grow weary or faint in our efforts to uphold them...
