NYC-based Hearts For Animals and FAUN NJ are co-sponsoring 2 consecutive anti-circus demonstrations as the caravan of cruelty rumbles into Garfield, NJ. Please help us expose and fight against animal slavery/cruelty. We will provide flyers, leaflets and signs but feel free to bring your own (preferably original) materials if you have them. Like all circuses with animals, Cole Brothers abysmally fails to meet minimum standards of care for the animals.
Cole Bros has the widest variety of animals among all modern circuses, enslaving and abusing creatures as variant as camels, llamas, monkeys, tigers, horses, big cats and bears, as well as traditional prime exploitees, our friends the elephants. The animals suffer emotionally and physically from captivity-related diseases, and quite often die prematurely. The animals are beaten into submission as babies and perform out of fear from the pain of the bullhooks, beatings, electric prods, chains and other insidious instruments of negative reinforcement and torture.
USDA License #58-C-0080, P.O. Box 127, DeLand, FL 32721 Cole Bros. Circus, previously known as Clyde Beatty-Cole Bros. Circus, has consistently failed to meet minimal federal standards for the care of animals used in exhibition as established by the Animal Welfare Act (AWA). The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has repeatedly cited Cole Bros. for failure to provide veterinary care to animals, including elephants who have shown extreme weight loss; they have also abysmally failed to provide adequate space to animals.
The USDA filed formal charges of AWA violations against Cole Bros. because the elephants showed signs of being abused with sharp metal bullhooks, the New Jersey humane society charged the circus with cruelty to animals for overloading and overworking an elephant, and two elephants?who were described as malnourished and neglected?died suddenly within a two-week period. In five separate incidents, Cole Bros. elephants have killed two members of the public, injured more than a dozen others, and rampaged during performances, which has caused tens of thousands of dollars in property damage.
