Dogs & Cats From Vocal Cord Mutilation.
Please Fight HARDER to Pass the
NYS Devocalization Ban--Stalled by Lobbies
That Profit From This Act of Cruelty.
Without Your Stepped-Up Activism,
After Thursday It'll Be All Over for the Proposed Ban...
And the Innocent Dogs & Cats It Would Protect.
HIS KENNELMATES WEREN'T AS LUCKY.
Porter wheezes, gags and struggles to breathe since being devocalized by an experienced vet. But at least he's alive. One of his devocalized kennelmates suffered heatstroke on a mild day. Another died after inhaling vomit into her lungs. And for what? They were all given to a rescue group after their vocal cords were cut...so their owner could have "quiet" animals.
PROTECT DOGS & CATS, NOT SPECIAL INTERESTS!
It is outrageous that New York still allows anyone, including vets, to cut vocal cords just to stifle a dog's or cat's voice. Many countries and Massachusetts don't; they've outlawed this act of animal cruelty.
But though New York's proposed devocalization ban passed the NYS Assembly--thanks to your calls and cross-posting--it has to pass the Senate too. And it's stuck in a Senate committee, kept there by lawmakers who have yielded to lobbies that profit from devocalization.
Without your stepped-up activism, it will be dead after Thursday.
YOU DESERVE THEIRS...FOR THIS HUMANE LEGISLATION.
Please use your voice to make sure the Senate passes the devocalization ban by June 21. You must specify "as written" because amendments would hurt animals.
Call, don't email. Calls can't be ignored; emails can.
To ensure your message is clear, use the wording provided. Add to it if you wish, but be brief and always polite.
For follow-up calls: Ask the status of the devocalization ban and then repeat your original message.
If asked the bill number: It is S6167C/A3431D.
Get voicemail? Keep calling till you speak with an aide.
1) Tell the office of Senate Majority Leader Skelos at 518-455-3171 or 516-766-8383: "I'd like Sen. Skelos to ensure the devocalization ban becomes law as written this session. Many people are counting on his leadership to pass this important humane law."
2) Tell the office of your own NYS Senator (in Albany, not Congress): "I'm a constituent. I want the devocalization ban to become law as written this session. It's a top priority for me, and I vote."
To find your Senator's name and phone #, enter your address here: http://assembly.state...
A promise of support means nothing if the bill doesn't get a vote. Your Senator needs to actively enlist the Majority Leader's assistance to bring the legislation to the floor...and pass it as written.
