Do you think atheists groups can alter public opinions of non-theism?

I'm sure it's possible. Alter for good or ill, I don't know.

What do you hope to find in a group of freethinkers?

Knowledgeable, articulate individuals who can share their insights and feelings, and help to make sense of conflicting ideas.

Are you open with your atheism and how did your family and friends respond when you told them?

Open in the sense that I don't deny it, but I rarely bring it up as it is rarely relevant to anything. No one who has known me personally has thought otherwise about me, so I never 'came out' or surprised anyone.

When did you realize you were atheist?

I suppose when I learned the definition of that word and noticed that I fit the description. I don't label myself as such, though. I prefer: "Incredulist" - it's a bit more general. I am more pro-science than I am anti-religious.

Introduction

I get frustrated by people who do not care what the truth is. I think a good understanding of reality is beneficial to living a fulfilled life. Hopefully, by working together, caring people can brighten up a dark world.
