Do you think atheists groups can alter public opinions of non-theism?

Absolutely.

What do you hope to find in a group of freethinkers?

Like-minded people, mainly.

Are you open with your atheism and how did your family and friends respond when you told them?

I am not closed about it, but I do not advertise it. My friends and family generally are either atheists themselves (very rare), or tend to avoid discussing it with me, so there really hasn't been much to tell.

When did you realize you were atheist?

It was a gradual process that took several years.

Introduction

My name is Darin. I am an atheist from a religious family and I am interested in becoming more active in the secular community. Everything else, you gotta ask me about.
