Possibly. Atheists provided me with the knowledge and insight to question my religious beliefs. Atheists who are involved in the community and charity work in the name of good not god can help break through the stereotypes.
Conversation that doesn't end with, "it's all in god's plan."
I am not "out" to most of my family because I do not want to hurt them. My mother would cry and think I was damned to an eternity in hell. Not worth it. Most of my friends know and they don't understand, but they accept me for me.
I realized I was an atheist after going back to school and sitting through Cultural Anthropology and World History classes. I could no longer subscribe to al I was taught by the Catholic church.
