You've learnt the basics of F#: What's next? with Ian Russel

F# has some of the coolest real-world features available in any programming language. In this session, I’m going to introduce you to two of them; Type Providers and the MailboxProcessor. Type Providers make handling data from many disparate sources a breeze and the MailboxProcessor will allow you to easily create highly scalable concurrent applications. Come along to this session to see some of the reasons why F# is rapidly gaining traction within the .Net community.

Ian Russsel is an experienced provider of simplicity, order and common-sense to complex OLTP solutions. Passionate about learning from others and giving back to the community. Paid to write C# and SQL, lover of F#, node.js and NoSql. He is the Co-founder of CraftyCoders (, a principles-focused user group for the West Midlands .Net community.

I enjoyed the meet up this evening. Thanks!

One idea for a type provider that could be quite useful for me would be for plug-ins in MEF. This way, one could search through a catalog of composable parts from a directory of DLLs and run the plug-ins that matched some search criteria. I don't know enough about type providers to be sure if this is even workable or just plain horrible. Has anyone else written this sort of thing?
