What it's about:

When last we saw dear Sebastian, he was poised to feast on the ripened soul of his young master. Unfortunately for the debonair demon, there’s a new butler in town…

Enter Claude Faustus, a malevolent manservant uninspired by the drab flavor of his own contracted master, Alois Trancy. This pedestrian lad holds no allure for Claude, so the bespectacled butler sets his sights on a finer delicacy from the menu of the damned. None other than Ciel Phantomhive. And so begins a devilish dance of death starring crow and spider. The demonic duel rages beyond the limits of good taste, culminating in a debaucherous maze of madness pitting butler against butler. Sebastian and Claude: two ravenous rakehells filled with the power of darkness and locked in a macabre battle for the soiled soul of the young master they so long to devour.

I've already apologized to several attendees, but I would like to apologize for my occasional loud comments as Grell. While I wasn't the majority of the noise I feel bad for having contributed to the noise that irritated some attendees.

    I had a great time though. ^^;

I'd just like to express my great appreciation to Funimation for providing these awesome events and would encourage folks to not focus too much on any perceived negatives, as Funimation doesn't have to do this for us and doesn't charge us a dime for the privilege. :-)

Probably the best comment I heard was from the Undertaker when Alois stuck the rose in Claude's mouth. "You are now a Vase."

It was rather disconcerting to me as well, to see the very young children in the audience.
But, as you said, it is their parents' call.

  • Victor M.

Who thought it was kind of creepy and inappropriate with a little girl no older than 10 goes up to the front to claim her prize of a Black Butler set? Not all anime is meant for children and yes it's partially up to the parents but seriously FUNimation come on!

    May 12, 2012

  • Victor M.

People kept yelling through out the show ruining it.

Oh man! It was amazing! Seeing my favorite series on the big screen, I almost literally cried. I was dressed as Lizzie and lots of people told me I was cute, yay! Too bad I was RIGHT NEXT to this loud group of cosplayers, who said some funny stuff, but sometimes the commentary went a bit overboard and it was a bit distracting! My mom won the last raffle prize, so we got the leftover prize (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood). Was hoping for Princess Jellyfish or Chaos;Head, but atleast we won something! It was my first meet, so it was really exciting (+ winning a raffle prize on the first meet?! Wow, I had the best night ever!) Hopefully I can attend future meets, too! Oh, as a side note; THOSE POSTERS/POSTCARDS, WOAH! They were the best things ever, especially that Guilty Crown poster! (Too bad the Black Butler poster only had Claude and Sebastian on them. I was really hoping for a poster of Ciel... Though I must say, the design on the Black Butler poster was awesome.)

Yes, this is supposed to be relaxed and fun...but if it was my living room and someone talked over an anime I was trying to watch, I'd get equally irritated. Basic movie theater etiquette doesn't go out the window because it's anime, people. A whispered comment here and there is fine, but constant chatter is excessive and - as can be seen above - detracts from the enjoyment of the people around you.

TL;DR If you can't have fun without ruining it for the people around you, please don't attend.

It was almost excessive, but that it a big point of these meetings; it's not like a movie where you can pay ten bucks just to get in. This is almost party-like (including gifts at the end!), so a little leeway is necessary. That's just the kind of atmosphere it is. And the guy going "SHHHHHH" every time it happened made the distraction twice as long, I was closer to him than those girls.

There's making some silly jokes here and there, and then there's constant, annoying giggling and whispering. There's plenty of time before and after the screening to socialize, but I'd rather it not happen while I'm trying to watch something.

    May 10, 2012

  • Reanada

I quite agree with Kendall Cobb.
The point of these screenings is for anime lovers to express themselves in ways not accepted in regular movie showings, in a RELAXED atmosphere, while enjoying the AWESOME anime.
To all you stuffed shirts lighten up! :-)

  • Kendal C.

I actually rather like the audience commentary. I'm so shy and spend most of my time around dismal, quiet people, so I find any kind of silliness entertaining. I come to these to be around fun people!

    1 · May 10, 2012

    I had fun as usual!

It was a very pleasant meet, overall. I swear, one of these days I WILL win a prize; I've been at it since the early Addison days. :D But, as many people said, the cosplayers chattering behind us were unfunny. As no one else has yet said, ladies, if you're reading this? You sounded like Ethel Merman devoured Oliver Twist. Work on that.

    Awesome!!!

  • James

Black Butler isn't my favorite anime, but a good showing nonetheless. I was a bit disappointed with the additional hecklers this time around. Surprised at the amount of prizes this month! Hope to win something soon! :)

  • Charlie

It was great except for the loud laughing people at one side of the room which was distracting.

    May 9, 2012

  • Tiffany

This was my first meet up and I had a lot of fun. The only thing that sucked was the very loud, annoying group of people also in attendance. I'm planning to attend next month in the hopes that disruptive groups aren't the norm at these events.

    I enjoyed myself immensely.
Thank you for hosting these screenings.

It was sooo much fun and I got to meet some new people! =D didn't win any prize but there's always a chance next time! ^^

  • Lian S.

It was incredible! Everything from the fans to the host was just great. Considering it was my birthday and they screened Black Butler was the most awesomest thing for me. I can't wait to see you guys next year. P.S. Thanks to Ciel and Mey-Rin who hugged me and the fellow audience for wishing me a happy birthday ^-^

Anime was good, the constant string of MST-esque commentary from the people behind us got old rather quickly, though.

Thanks for poster Sophie! Awesome job as usual!

    May 8, 2012

  • Robert B.

To the girls who kept talking and giggling throughout the whole movie - stop it. You weren't funny.

In other news, I've attended four of these meetups, and twice now I have won DVDs. Is it some sort of superpower I didn't know about?

    THANKS SOPHIE! :)

@Keaton - Sorry about that. :/ If it helps, I was in Case Closed, Yu Yu Hakusho, FMA, and EVA 2.22 for a couple minutes.

Gonna have someone join me if that possible

For the third time in a row no special guest? This is just getting depressing, the guests are the best part of these Funimation at the Movies, even if it is just someone whose only part of the show was making a fart noise for .2005 seconds it is still awesome. I enjoy meeting the people who make anime in America possible, it is eighty percent of the reason I go to Funimation at the Movies.

    May 8, 2012

  • Sophie M.

I've released 5 of my guests, so that should let more people in. If you are on the waiting list, you still have a good chance of getting in. Around 40% of the "Yes" attendees don't show up.

    May 8, 2012

  • Sophie M.

@Jason - Your poster is on my desk. :D I'll have plenty of extras as well.

Sophie, I tried e-mailing you but I never heard back. Can I talk about the Dallas Zoo's annual Rhino fundraiser at this week's meetup? I can bring zoo tickets for the raffle again as well.
