House party

Plans are being made for a truly one-of-a-kind meal - a dish that will feed about 10-12 people. Probably best to have some (5-6) of us rendez-vous at the house, then make a trip to the store to buy all the food required - with $5-$10 requested from everybody who wants to eat it to break up the cost (approx. $100). Snacks, drinks and side dishes/desserts are also recommended, of course. It takes several hours to prepare but is entirely worth the effort! Teaser photos below...

Ok folks, we still need 2 (or 3, to be on the safe side) bags of provolone cheese & a couple pounds of salami.

    September 13, 2013

    • Mark S.

I found 12 ounce bags of slices and got 3. are those big enough ? Joanna's bringing macaroni chicken salad .

      September 15, 2013

    • Rob

I think that will do. See you soon...

      September 15, 2013

  • Candace L.

So, Rob...What's left? If there's nothing else specific, I'd like to steal the eggs from you, since you're already taking a lot to the party. I've got like 20 eggs ready to be hard boiled...What do you think? I'll also bring a big bottle of sangria, and... am open to suggestions!

    September 14, 2013

    • Candace L.

Ok, have you boiled your eggs yet? Vanilla ice cream, check!

    Hi Rob
Is the party of tomorrow 2 PM or 7 PM? Does the time changed?
I will bring a chocolate cake.

    1 · September 14, 2013

    • Rob

      2:00. Cake? Mmmm.... Sounds good!

      September 14, 2013

  • Rob

All right, for other food & drink preparations, I'm bringing 1 bottle of red wine, 2 loaves of French bread and either brownies or a couple pineapples.

    September 14, 2013

  • Rob

Here's the list of ingredients - 8 items total:
Bread dough - 2 canisters (Pillsbury)
Provolone cheese (cut into cubes) - 1-2 bags
Genoa salami - 1 lb. should be enough
    6-8 eggs (hard boiled)
    Meatballs (1 bag)
    Tomato sauce (Ragu/Prego, 1 or 2 containers)
Ziti pasta noodles (1-2 boxes/about 2 lbs. worth)
    Romano/Parmesan grated cheese (1 container)

    1 · September 1, 2013

    • Rob

Ok, 3-4 boxes of Ziti noodles. Thanks!

      September 13, 2013

    • Rob

Oh yes, the portions for everything are much bigger than what I first posted.

      September 13, 2013

  • Rob

Wayne has the spaghetti sauce. I will buy the eggs and meatballs.

    September 13, 2013

I'll make real pizza dough ...

    September 9, 2013

    • Rob

Ooh, sounds good! Just please be sure to make a lot of it.

      September 9, 2013

    • Rob

It has to be placed across the entire inside of the bowl, and then cover the top of the dish. And probably not quite as thick as pizza crust usually is, but it also shouldn't be really thin. This would help a lot because I've always had a lot of trouble stretching it out to the proper size with store-bought dough. Thanks so much!

      September 9, 2013

  • Rob

I've ordered the large bowl. Don't want to be accused of bad planning if we don't have enough of the main course with the smaller bowl!

    1 · September 8, 2013

    • Michelle J.

Oh no... are all of them closing or just some?

      September 9, 2013

    • Rob

      Mine, and the downtown store.

      September 9, 2013

  • Rob

Update on the ingredients needed because we'll be using the larger bowl; some amounts haven't changed much, but we will definitely need more of a few items - and take note that everything will need to be at room temperature when we are ready to put it in the bowl:

3 canisters of bread dough (pizza crust)
    Salami - 2 lbs.
    Provolone cheese - 2 bags, maybe 3
    Probably about 12 hard-boiled eggs
    Meatballs - 1 bag
Ragu/Prego tomato sauce - 2 large containers (I'm betting we will use every bit of it)
Ziti pasta - 2 boxes (3 lbs.), maybe 3 to be safe
    Romano/Parmesan cheese blend - 1 container

    September 9, 2013

  • Rob

Came up with an idea today, in the hopes of saving time: if anyone wants to purchase an ingredient for the timpano before the day of the party (or day of), just post what you bought and make sure not to forget it when you make the drive! That way, others can get an item (if they want) and we might be able to avoid having a few of us going to the grocery store after meeting at the house. The sooner we can get started on preparing the food, the better, because it does take a couple of hours.

    2 · September 8, 2013

  • Rob

Candace has helped me make this once, so she can attest to how delicious it is.

    2 · September 4, 2013

    • Michelle J.

We can just have other food available this time and if its a great success then we can get another bowl for another time.. !?!

      September 6, 2013

    • Rob

I will probably just bring the pan I have now. Along with all the other food people are bringing, I think we'll have enough of the main course for everyone.

Have invited 3 friends from Dallas and they all said "yes."

    2 · September 5, 2013

ATTENTION: I got word from the hosts today that we need to bump this back 24 hours. So now it's gonna happen on Sunday, the 15th.

    September 3, 2013

    • Mary

I thought it was normally on Sundays to begin with... So was thrown off by Sat.. No biggie either way for me thankfully.

      2 · September 3, 2013

      Good to hear!

      September 3, 2013

I would love to attend but I can't pay for the purchase of meat because I will feel like an assassin for days. Too much guilt, not worth it.

    August 31, 2013

    • Rob

Come if you can - you can bring any dish you want and I think we have a few other vegans amongst us.

      2 · August 31, 2013

    • Michelle J.

For sure come an join us! There is usually quite a bit of food to choose from since everyone does SUCH a great job of making sure they contribute! I love this group of people! :D
