Friday Dinner

Location subject to change; we don't necessarily need a majority vote, but if several people say they approve we'll go to Sera this month.

Chad, there was a denial of service attack. No personal information has taken.

I was quite happy with this place. Good to see all the regulars and meet quite a few new faces! I definitely had fun.

Good mix of people, a little stimulating conversation. I'd go again. Hopefully next time is a place where I can afford to eat. : )

    Is this group mostly atheist?

    February 27, 2014

    • james C W.

A while back I read in a new member post to the Metroplex Atheists, "You have only rejected one god, I have rejected millions", obviously a former hindu.

The crux of my argument is that all of the world's religions cannot be right, so that negates the existence of their deities (or 99.99% of them). And for quite a while I was a part of the main one in this country, claiming the truth of the "one, true God" but that didn't work for me either. And I'll say no more so we can discuss in a couple hours.

This is going to be my first time too Chad. I was just wondering Rob if the rapture occurs this afternoon will you still have the meeting? Sometimes the answer to the God question is: "I simply don't know." Or as the Robert Langdon character in Dan Brown's books says: "I didn't get the faith gene."

    February 28, 2014

    • Rob

Yes, I would still go unless the world suddenly descended into chaos and I was busy fighting for my life. But I say the rapture won't happen because Christians have been saying "Jesus will return!" for more than 700,000 days - think about that, more than 700,000 days! I'm not worried.

Also, 54 comments has to be the most I've ever seen for any event in any group!

I've invited a friend from Dallas so that makes 25 but the restaurant will just have to deal with it. Will probably have a few no-shows anyway.

I have people say to me this is just a bunch of nutbags who like are big-foot beleivers and stuff

    February 27, 2014

    • Rob

Who exactly said that to you? It wasn't Christian believers, was it? Anyway, to address your question, I can't speak for the other members but I don't care about bigfoot.

With all these conversations about where, I've lost track about when. When is this next meetup? -- And where is Sera? We need one succinct, complete, summary message.

All of the key details for this event are provided on the group's main page or through the group calendar, or you can click on the "View conversation" link whenever you receive an email concerning new comments. 2418 Forest Park Blvd. at 6:30 on Friday, Feb. 28.

Little Mermaid in Dallas. Have wanted to attend a Friday dinner. Sorry.

I just changed my +1 to +3 as my neighbors had to leave to California on a family emergency and left their two boys with me for the week. Be forewarned, they are not free thinkers but are only 9 and 12. So we can beat them up if necessary.

    1 · February 23, 2014

    • Manolo

Thanks Rob, but like I said, if their not, we can beat them up.

      February 23, 2014

    • Rob

Well, that's definitely one way to get them to toe the line...

Love, is a feeling you feel, when you're about to feel, a feeling you never felt before. Are you feeling it?

    February 14, 2014

  • Manolo

And just to clarify, Sera is a "Tapas" Bar, not a "Topless" Bar.

    February 13, 2014

    • james C W.

So I have to wear a hat?

      February 13, 2014

    • Manolo

Curious enough, Tapas can be loosely translated as "Toppers". They were little plates of food that were put on top of your glass when you ordered a drink in Southern Spain to keep the flies out of your glass. Even today you can find Bars in Spain that serve free Tapas with each drink you order. The more you drink, the better the Tapas. As far as the hat James, that would depend on your hair.

Greetings. We are excited to meet you all.. just moved here in Sept. but we are pro ballroom dancers, performing on the 28th,,,will try to make the next one. Thanks for thinking of us.

    February 13, 2014

  • Manolo

I just made reservations at Sera of Ft Worth with the option to cancel if we do not all agree on this place. But I think it's worth (no pun intended) taking a look at. Spanish Tapa Bars have become popular due to the size of the plates and their little cost allowing people to share and this way try many different foods. They have quite the wine selection and of course many styles of beers along with mixed drinks. And did I mention Sangria! Let me know if I need to cancel the reservation. I like the German restaurant also having lived in Germany for eight years. I could go either way. Not trying to step on anybodies toes (Unless of course we are dancing).

Well it is easier for me to get to.

    February 12, 2014

  • Rob

Another option is Little Germany, just north of downtown. I've been there once and it was pretty good. They do take reservations...

    February 12, 2014

  • Rob

They're gone. They closed on Sunday and one of the businesses nearby said the employees took virtually everything, leaving the paint mess as a final statement. What a shame. Okay then, on to Los Molcajetes for a month or two, to see how that goes for us. They won't take reservations on Friday nights, so they advised that we show up by 6:30 for seating at 7. So there are no guarantees that we will all sit together, but let's give it a try at least once. Other options are the Chef Point Cafe (further east, just beyond HWY 377) and Joe's Pasta & Pizza (by the Wal-Mart in Keller).

Nikki's said they're too busy on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday nights to handle a group our size.

      February 11, 2014

    • Rob

      Okay, thanks for checking Mark.

      February 12, 2014

  • james C W.

Now what I have not seen addressed and more critical than if we can table in a group, is it BYOB?

    February 9, 2014

    • Manolo

Did I mention Sera's in Ft Worth serves Sangria!

      February 11, 2014

  • Manolo

Is it just me, or do we seem to gravitate to either Italian or Mexican restaurants? Not that I dislike either, but it would seem we could add variety to our venues. Tapa restaurants are fun. They have these little plates of different foods that everybody can share that makes it fun to try a variety of foods, and the sangria flows like water! How about German, Thai, or here's a thought, American! Don't get me wrong, I'm up for anything and will go anyway. Just saying.

    February 8, 2014

  • Rob

I know, Mark; I drove by yesterday at 6:30 and it was dark. I called them today and they still had an answering machine message, but that's not really encouraging. It's a shock, in light of the full house they had last time. I'm considering moving us over to Los Molcajetes (by the Alberston's @ Beach & Western Center) b/c they have OUTSTANDING food & drinks, but they are usually very crowded so I would have to always remember to make reservations well in advance (with a seating limit, I'm sure, probably about 10-12 maximum). Manolo's suggestion was Red Lobster; is there still one in NRH near the Autonation dealership?

    February 6, 2014

  • Mark S.

Bad news: it looks like romas is closed :-( no signs but all the tables and chairs are gone. Two different colors of paint have been splashed on the walls.

    February 6, 2014

    • Manolo

That's not bad news. A problem only gives the opportunity to provide a solution. New place!

      February 6, 2014

I'd rather meet up in a place that is quiet enough to carry on conversations and hear someone other than whoever is next to me or directly across from me.

    February 3, 2014

    • Rob

Sometimes we might have as few as 4 people, but most of these meetings (at this place) are big events.

      February 3, 2014

  • james C W.

I expect to show maybe with my wife, Shan Shan & wicked step daughter Chun Chun. Neither of which might be thought of as free thinkers. Well maybe if you drink enough of my wine and mead.
