Observe Human Rights Day with 4 free films

Observe Human Rights Day with four films that prompt reflection

Movies That Matter: A Human Rights Film Series will present A Day of Films and Reflection on Dec. 8 at Rose Marine Theater, 1440 N. Main St. The event commemorates International Human Rights Day.

Movies That Matter is a quarterly screening of human rights films presented by the Fort Worth Human Relations Commission. This day-long event will feature four films:

Cartography of Loneliness
1 p.m. Cartography of Loneliness is akin to a map tracing the emotions and feelings of women in three countries — India, Nepal and Afghanistan — who find themselves completely alone after losing their husbands. 2011, not rated, 68 minutes.

Two Sides of The Moon
2:30 p.m. Two Sides of The Moon is a short film that examines the struggle in balancing two cultural identities that for Muslim women can result in death. 2011, not rated, 34 minutes.

Little Town of Bethlehem
4 p.m. Little Town of Bethlehem is a gripping story of three men, born into violence, who are willing to risk everything to bring an end to violence in their lifetime. 2010, PG-13, 75 minutes.

Nefarious: Merchant of Souls
7 p.m. Nefarious: Merchant of Souls provides a comprehensive look at modern slavery around the world. 2011, not rated, 109 minutes.

Seating is limited. A moderated discussion with subject matter experts will follow Little Town of Bethlehem and Nefarious: Merchant of Souls. A reception will be held from 5:45-6:45 p.m. in the gallery of the Rose Marine Theater.

Tickets are free and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis beginning 30 minutes before each film.

I am sorry but when I signed up for today I had not realized today is my 28th anniversary. I would like to come to FT meeting on a Saturday where there is a lot of conversation or weeknight at 7:00pm or later.

Right now, this is not a organized event, but I wanted to let the members know about it. If anyone wants to meet before or after, just let us know and I can help with plans.
