Join us for our first trip to Concerts on the Square for 2013. This annual event features free concerts on the Capitol Square lawn (King Street corner) for six consecutive weeks on Wednesday evenings. Music is provided by the Madison Chamber Orchestra and a special Guest Artist.
The event for July 3rd will be an early celebration of the 4th of July. For the annual Independence Day celebration, pianist Michael Mizrahi joins the orchestra for a rousing tribute to America, with tunes from an American classic, George Gershwin. We are proud to also give our Salute to Veterans, as we invite all of our veterans to stand as their theme for their branch of service is played during Lowden's Armed Forces Salute. There'll be Sousa of course...and by now, you know what our "booming" closing piece will be!
Someone from our group will be there early to save us some space on the lawn, so bring your lawn chairs or blankets and join us for music under the evening sky. We'll post our location during the afternoon, so recheck the site the day of the concert. Be there by 6:00 so we can chat and get settled before the music starts. The concert starts at 7:00 pm. Bring your own refreshments, or box lunches are available for sale by various vendors.
GERSHWIN | I Got Rhythm
GERSHWIN | Rhapsody in Blue
LOWDEN | Armed Forces Salute
TCHAIKOVSKY | 1812 Overture
Important: the only lawn chairs allowed are the low-slung "beach chairs" - so plan accordingly!
