Hike Military Ridge Trail & Breakfast

Time for another hike!  It's been few and far between lately as I've struggled with knee problems, but I'm doing better now.

Sunday is supposed have rain / thundershowers, but not until afternoon, so we can fit in a morning hike.  Watch for an update and reschedule if the forecast worsens and it doesn't look like we can get this walk in.

Join me for a hike of the Military Ridge Trail in Verona, followed by breakfast for those interested at the Pancake Cafe, just down the road from our starting / ending point at 6220 Nesbitt Rd. in Fitchburg, near Quivey's Grove.  We'll do an early hike before it gets too hot and muggy.

I am planning an "out and back walk" so we don't have to worry about positioning vehicles.  If you want to bring along your dog this is allowed, but they must be on leash, and of course be prepared to pick up after them. Hopefully the weather will still  be cool enough to let our buddies sleep it off in the car while we breakfast.

We will start at 8:30, and we will walk for about an hour.  Pancake Cafe doesn't take reservations, so those doing breakfast should be aware we may have to wait for a table.  Ah, but the wait is worth it!  This place has been voted best of Madison for breakfast every year since 2003!   http://www.pancakecafe.com/menu.asp

Military Ridge is a level grade, so there are no real hills to speak of.  No trail pass is required for walkers (all good!)  We can take a leisurely stroll for about 90 minutes, and when we are almost half way through our available time, turn around and head back.  Bring your cameras, binoculars, or both. !http://dnr.wi.gov/Org/land/parks/specific/militaryridge/

Directions: The parking lot for the Verona section of the trail is located on Hwy PB, just south of Verona Road, on the right.  From Madison, take Hwy 18/151 (Verona Road) south toward Dodgeville, take exit 81 for Verona.  The intersection at the end of the exit is E. Verona Road straight ahead, Maple Grove to your right, and Hwy. PB to your left.  Turn left onto Hwy. PB, and the parking lot is just past the intersection on your right.  Look for the Park & Ride sign.  If you get to Grandview Road, you've gone too far!

Please note:  The map provided by Meetup does not take you to the right place! Paste the following link into your browser for a map of the parking site.  Maple Grove Drive turns into Old County Hwy. PB just past E. Verona Road.  The parking lot is on the right.  This shows better if you click on the satellite view.

I'd love to but I'm helping my mom move that day. Have fun!
