Apple "Plukkin" at Eplegaarden

The forecast for Monday just keeps getting worse.  Let's reschedule for next Saturday, still at 11:00 am.  The good news is that the Honeycrisp apples should be ripe by then!

It's time for Apple "Plukkin" at EPLEGAARDEN in Fitchburg! If you don't have out of town plans for Labor Day weekend, join us for this fun annual event.  This year, let's go on Monday, September 1 - Labor Day itself!  (Ole Fashioned Ice Cream Social with FREE ice cream on Labor Day Weekend!)

The ever popular Honeycrisp apples are expected to be ready for picking the first week of September - hopefully September 1st counts!  Several other varieties will also be available, and self-pick raspberries may also available.

For those interested, we will head over to the Great Dane-Fitchburg for lunch after we finish picking.  For those who did this event a couple of years ago, we do not have a conflict with the Madison Ironman this time, so you can actually get to the orchard without the obstacle course!

Park in the parking lot and walk up da drive towards Eplebutikken (The Apple Store).  We'll meet in the area just outside the store.

Meet at "Ole's Information Station" first (to the left of the store deck) or go to Eplebutikken on less busy weekdays. Find out:

· What's available for plukkin dat day. (It changes every day.)

· Ver to go fer plukkin apples and raspberries. (It changes every day.)

· Prepay for Selv Plukk bags

· How to plukk. A pre-visit tip from Ole. "Both feet must be on the ground to plukk apples. (Dat's right . No tree climbing.)"

· Other Rules for Plukkin.

Directions to Eplegaarden:

From central Madison or within the City of Fitchburg, drive exactly 4 miles south of Madison south Beltline (Hwy[masked]) on Seminole Hwy, turn right (west) on Whalen Road, go ¼ mile, turn left (south) on Fitchburg Road, go ¼ mile to 2227 Fitchburg Road. Eplegaarden sign at entrance.

From City of Oregon, go west on M, past Fish Hatchery Rd to Fitchburg Road, turn right (north) on Fitchburg Road, go 1 mile north to 2227 Fitchburg Road.

From the City of Verona, go east on Whalen Road 3 miles to Fitchburg Road, turn right (south), go ¼ mile to 2227 Fitchburg Road.

Be aware there is lot's of construction in this area.  Of course there is the ongoing project at the Beltline and Verona Road.  Be aware they have now torn up McKee Road (Hwy. PD) in between Seminole and Fish Hatchery Road, so that's down to one lane in each direction.

Visit their website at http://www.eplegaarden.com for more info.

Followed by lunch @ the Great Dane Fitchburg. From Eplegaarden, turn left out of the parking lot, right (east) on Whalen Road, left on Fish Hatchery (approx. 2 miles).  The Great Dane is in the Hatchery Hill complex just past highway PD, on your left.  Entrance is up the hill on Cahill Main Street, behind the strip mall.

Beautiful day and I am up to my ears in apples.

Great Dane doesn't take reservations on game days, so we will have to wing it. Most likely we will split up into multiple tables, depending on who stays for lunch. Apple picking usually takes about an hour.

I am going to have to cancel too. I may come there with my 2 grand daughters. Sounds enjoyable.

Should be able to make the apple plukkin. But, I don't think I will have time to have lunch. How much time do you think we will spend plukkin? Are you making reservations for lunch?

Sorry, thought that I could make the changed date, but as it turns out, I can't. Enjoy yourselves!

Saw the Eplegaared folks at the Farmer's market on Thursday. FYI, Honeycrisp won't be ready until Sept. 5.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
