Announcing a new Meetup for The Fairfax Volleyball Meetup Group!

What: The Fairfax Volleyball Meetup

When: April 18,[masked]:00 AM

Event fee: $10.00 per person

Where: Click the link below to find out!

Meetup Description: Saturday Indoor Volleyball

2 courts of competitive play for serious players.. though we always have fun! Please help set up and take down the nets if you can. We start at 9:00 AM sharp! Water is the only beverage allowed by the schools, and no food(though I sneak a few granola bars in.. just don't leave any mess)

Cost:
It's going to be $10 per person/per Saturday($10 Cash or $10.61 Paypal for first timers only). This is for a 4 hour window at the gym. We have to have at least 18 paying players by Wednesday morning to book the gym.

Please RSVP(sign up!!) on the Meetup so we can get a count. I will apply your payments when I see that you RSVP. I prefer everyone RSVP so I can ensure we have enough players to cover the costs. If we are maxed out on the meetup and you show up you may not get to play if everyone is there. 24 players is the most that should attend. Nobody wants to rotate in just because you didn't rsvp! I can't afford to cover anyone who signs up and no shows, so if you do that, you forfeit your $10 bucks. If you can't make it and it's full with people waiting, change your RSVP NO LATER THAN the day before at 5PM. If you do and someone takes your spot you are off the hook. If you No show and miss the deadline for changing your RSVP, you still owe the money. It's not fair to those that want to play that you RSVP, pay and no show, so if you do this more than once or twice, your out of this meetup.
If the meetup is full? and you still want to attend, RSVP Waitlist. If someone drops out you will recieve an email stating that there is an opening and if you are first you will be able to sign up.

Payment:
Because I have had more no-shows from new people than anyone else, I am now requiring pre-payment via Paypal for first timers. If you are a first timer, you must pre-pay via Paypal If you haven't pre-paid by 5pm the Saturday before, I will have to remove you from the meetup and add someone waiting to play. Please Paypal 10.61 to [address removed]. Please leave your name and the meetup date with paypal as a note so I can keep track. If you no show and don't make the meetup you are out of this meetup and forfeit your $10.

Once you've been out to play, I prefer to be paid cash for this and also in advance for the next meetup as well. That will help me ensure we have enough players to book the gym and that people show up when they sign up. When you attend, please pay me $20 in cash. ($10 for this event and $10 for a future event- (applied when you rsvp for it). At subsequent events, please give me $10 pre-payment for next time you rsvp. Please don't make myself or Son come looking for you for payment. Please bring payment to us when we are collecting(usually when we re-number the teams). Thanks.

Any questions, please email me at: [address removed]
Some rules we follow for indoor volleyball..

Keep it friendly out there. Anyone who doesn't get this doesn't belong here and won't be welcome back
Typically we play rally scoring(every point counts) to 25
If you hit the roof above you and it comes back to your side, it's still in play(provided that it wasn't the third hit)
If you hit the ball into the roof and it goes over the net, the point is over, and it's the other team's point
If you hit a side wall or back wall it's dead.
If you hit the roof right above the net and it comes back to your side(the ball would go to the other side if the center wall divider wasn't there) it's dead and it is the other team's point. AKA - Duane's rule
If the ball hits the net on a serve and goes over, it is in play
If you touch the net with your hands or arms, you forfeit the point. Please call it on yourself if you hit the net
Please don't "Carry" the ball. Defined here as lifting the ball up from the waist area or below with open palms. A closed fist is fine.
Another form of carry is the dunk or re-direct, your hand shouldn't remain in contact with the ball for more than a strike.
Games must be won by 2 points.

GYM Cancellations:

The inclement weather hotline number is :[masked]?Check the Meetup for updates and your email. If the schools are closed, I'll hold your money for the next time you play. I'll keep a spreadsheet with all the details.
