I've seen that done too...and the organizers usually end up getting their money back very quickly! Lisa

I like what Bob said. Setting up maybe a donation jar at battlegroud.
The groups on Yahoo and on Google are good for conversations like this. I am on several of them, but they do not really offer a good automatic way to set up events and control RSVP's.
I have been a part of groups that charge, and I have talked with other organizers about this. There are a couple of different ways to do this. I have seen groups that charge dues, I have seen groups that charge per event, sometimes as small as $1. I know you can set up meetup that way, but I have never done it so I can't say how easy it is.
Board games are currently enjoying a golden age with thousands of excellent "euro" or "designer" board games out there to be played. You will be amazed at what you may have been missing. See our About Us page for a sampling of games that have been played at our meetups. Don't be afraid if you've never heard of any of them. Most only take a few minutes to learn, and we like explaining how to play them! The group has become so popular that we have recently begun offering multiple meetups per month at various locations in Norwalk and Stamford. The atmosphere is very casual and relaxed. We just play for fun! Our meetups typically run from about 6pm to midnight. You can obviously come and go as you please.
