Please join members of the Fairlington Social Club on Saturday August 16, 2014 at 10:00 AM for a "Tour de Mount Vernon and lunch" round trip bicycle ride from Arlington to George Washington's Mount Vernon.
We will start and end our bike ride in Shirlington Village at Capitol City Brewing Company located at 4001 Campbell Avenue Arlington Virginia 22206.
This approximately 30 mile round trip laid back easy going "Tour de Mount Vernon and lunch" bike ride will leave from Shirlington, follow the Four-Mile Run Trail, connect with the Mount Vernon Trail at the tip of Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport, go through Old Town Alexandria along Union Street and the waterfront, go through Jones Point Park, and continue to follow the Mount Vernon trail to George Washington's Estate.
We will ride the 15 miles to Mount Vernon, eat lunch at the Mount Vernon Inn restaurant or at the Food Court depending on rider preference, and then ride the return 15 miles back to Shirlington. Both the Food Court and the Mount Vernon Inn Restaurant can be accessed without having to purchase an admission ticket for the Estate.
This trip will take approximately 3 1/2 hours or so to complete to complete, based on doing lunch at Mount Vernon and the pace of our tail end rider.
You will need a bicycle lock to secure your bike to a bike rack during lunch.
For information about Mount Vernon, visit http://www.mountvernon.org
Please make sure your bicycle is in good mechanical condition.
You will be plumb tuckered out after this ride so we will quaff cold frosty beverages on the patio at Cap City in Shirlington upon our return.
Unlike other area Meetup groups that host bike rides, we do not have a lot of rules about what you can and cannot do while riding with us.
The wearing of a bicycle helmet is optional and is not required to ride with our group. You are an adult, make your own personal decision as to whether or not to wear a bicycle helmet.
No waiver forms are required to ride with our group.
If you wish to listen to music on your headphones while riding, feel free to do so but please be cognizant of others on the trail.
Wear whatever clothes you wish, but you do not need any fancy dancy spandex bicycle riding clothes or need to look like a professional road racing cyclist to ride with us. A cotton t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops will do just fine.
So dust off that ole Schwinn, Roadmaster, Huffy, Murray, Western Flyer, or Sears Roebuck bicycle that has been sitting in your garage, hop on, pedal, and enjoy bicycling with your fellow members of the Fairlington Social Club.
