The Whiteoak/Cedar Canyon hike was awesome - strenuous and a real adventure, but we survived and even had a great time! This time around we will go a little easier on you. We will head to the
George Washington National Forest. This hike affords some spectacular views with moderate effort. We will start early to avoid crowds and take advantage of nice weather
For those carpooling, plan to meet at 8:15AM in front of the North Fairlington Community center. We will aim to arrive at the hike by 10:30AM, leaving enough time for a bathroom stop along the way. If you're driving on your own plan to meet Wolf Gap Campground parking at 10:30AM.
Here's a link to Googlemaps directions:
http://maps.google.co... There are two trails that lead out of the parking lot, Big Schloss and Tibbet Knob. We'll start with Big Schloss and afterwards, for those who wish to continue hiking may take on Tibbet Knob. After the hike, we can try to find a good place to stop for a bite to eat and drinks. Be sure to dress appropriately, bring water and pack a lunch/snacks. Depending on your pace, Big Schloss will take about 3 hours. It's a 4.4-mile hike and you end up doing about 1,000 ft upward. Descriptions for both trails are below: Big Schloss:
