request for gardening help at Abingdon School

A former member
Post #: 4

The local elementary school in Fairlington is Abingdon School. It's a great school - the Principal, Joanne Uyeda, just won an award from the Post for her leadership. I've discussed the idea of our group doing some volunteer work at the school with the PTA President.

There will be more on that later - in the meantime, they have a small request for some gardening help at the school on Wed. Oct 3, from 5:30 - 7pm. Info is below. The school is at 3035 S Abingdon St
Arlington, VA 22206
(703) 228-6650

Thanks for your consideration,

--- email request ---

We're having a very last-minute Garden Work Evening next Wednesday, Oct. 3 from 5:30 - 7 at our school garden. The plans just got finalized last night at our PTA meeting. We're just looking for a few volunteers to help pull some weeds in the flower beds and put down fresh mulch. The science teacher has had her classes working on it for the last few weeks, so there's honestly not too much work to be done. If you know of anyone who loves to garden, we'd love to have them join us. People should bring their own gardening gloves.

However, we are planning a much larger garden project that will need lots of volunteer help. Our lead science teacher has received Lowe's Outdoor Classroom grant to start a composting area in the garden. I will let you know when that project is ready to begin (it will likely be the Spring); we'll definitely be able to use community help.
