BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND... THE NEW YEARS DAY POTLUCK @ PROUD LAKE RECREATION AREA.
APPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES. EVENT IS BEING PROMOTED STATEWIDE SO WE WILL BE JOINED MY MANY OTHER GROUPS. MY KIDS LOVE THIS EVENT
START THE NEW YEAR OFF WITH A BREATH OF FRESH AIR -- LITERALLY!!!! (OR, PERHAPS COME TO CURE A HANGOVER!!!)
Map of Park:
DIRECTIONS: From Detroit: Take 96 west toward Lansing until you get to the Wixom exit (#159). Turn right and follow the signs to the Proud Lake Recreation area. When you get to the T-stop, turn left. Go around the curve and turn right on Park Headquarters Road (Commerce Township, MI). http://goo.gl/maps/8ZKDE AT THE END OF A DEAD END ROAD. My GPS tends to go out of range out there, so don't count on that to get you there!
DESPITE WHAT THE MAP MARKER SAYS, the River Hawk Lodge & Conference Center (not the "annex") is at THE END OF THE ROAD. YOU CAN'T PARK IN FRONT OF THE BLDG. PARK ON THE ROAD BEHIND THE CARS YOU SEE, OR POSSIBLY IN A LOT BEFORE THE CONFERENCE CENTER . I saw folks all jammed up last year turning around at the DEAD END after they found out there were no open spots right next to the bldg.
CHECK BACK FOR MANY MORE DETAILS. MAC will have hikes and other outdoor fun throughout the day... ALSO CHECK BACK FOR CANCELLATION BEFORE YOU LEAVE... SOMETIMES THERE ARE WEATHER EMERGENCIES, ETC.
ALAN SAID TO FEEL FREE TO CALL HIM... HIS NUMBER IS AT THE BOTTOM...
A member of our club, Alan Heavner, who operates the canoe rental at Proud Lake, is having a New Year's Day Pot Luck, in a heated conference cente. Many more details to follow, but it starts at 1 p.m. DRESS FOR THE OUTDOORS!
I was there with my daughter last year... canoeing, hiking, etc. were a blast! There will be other clubs and orgs in the center with us. Last year, it was one big pot luck! (Yes, you can bring extension cords, crock pots, the usual stuff, etc.) People were playing cards, kicking back (so bring your favorite board games, etc.) and doing various activities outside throughout the day...
POT LUCK starts later in the day. I always bring my own water bottle, utensils, napkins, plate, etc. to every meetup... I've been to several events where innocent things happen and they run out...
