"What I Loved" by Siri Hustvedt

  • June 26 · 6:30 PM

I can't wait for our next meeting; we had such a fascinating discussion of Kem Nunn's "Chance" and other book related topics, such as: at what point do you abandon a book you find yourself disliking?

Nana has read "What I Loved," and highly recommended it.  The book reviews I read,  agree with her assessment.

The Meetups will continue to be held at my personal residence, and I will announce the address and contact information, to the RSVP's, just prior to the get together.

Guys, it's always so good to see you all. Here is the David Foster Wallace interview. It's long but it's worth it. Such a lovely nature...

The short story collection, by a female author, I was trying to remember at tonight's get together: "I Want to Show You More" by Jamie Quatro.
    My Goodreads/Library Thing review:

Jamie Quatro has a depth of feeling, about the human condition and the unique social nuances, of the American South, unparalleled in short story form. I'm looking forward to reading more of her work.

Another great get together. Fascinating conversations, on and off topic. Nice to see a couple of new faces; welcome Cindy and Michelle.

I'm so sorry but I won't make it tomorrow. I work now in Cupertino and we have a meeting in the late afternoon. The commute is a bit crazy around that time, so I have no chance to make it back to the city
    :(
However I hope you enjoyed the book! Have a wonderful evening!

You'll be missed, Nana, and I hope you can make it next time. All the best.

Hi all! Sorry for the delay; I was out of town for a few days. I can do #6,#7, and #8. Can't wait!

You're right, Janene. Nana I'm just waiting on EJ's response (have emailed her again just now). It won't be this week but as soon as we're able after that.

  • Nana Nicole W.

Dear friends, are we still on for this week meet up or is it postponed to a later date.

    June 2

    • jmek

I hope we're not on for this week: I'll have to spend the next 4 days reading full-time (which will be difficult). I believe Katherine was going to compile the results and let us know the new date on Tuesday or Wednesday.

  • Elizabeth R.

Hi all! How about we reschedule for a week later, i.e. Thursday the 12th? Does that work for you, Kate?

    May 28

    • Nana Nicole W.

I wasn't able to reschedule, so I won't make it on Tuesday 10th.

      May 31

    • Katherine

Thanks for trying, Nana. I'll send through other options.

  • Nana Nicole W.

Sorry for my late response! My friend from Berlin is visiting these days ... It's precious.

Rescheduling is fine for me, but I'm applying for an exciting job in Cupertino right now, so I can't promise that I can make it.

I hope you enjoyed "What I loved"!

    May 26

    • Doug

I liked "What I Loved" a lot; read it in less than a week, and then immediately bought "The Blazing World."

      1 · May 26

  • Doug

I could reschedule as well, but I will only if it works for the rest of the group.

    May 26

  • jmek

I also agree that we should aim for at least 4 at any meeting. I'm perfectly happy to reschedule for a bit later.

    May 25

  • Doug

I think we are fine, with a group of 4, but less than 4, seems a little small. I propose we automatically reschedule, when 2 or more members are unable to attend. What do the rest of you think?
I'm away until June 2nd, and mostly off of the grid. I apologize for the slow responses.

    1 · May 24

    • Katherine

Doug, I agree. I love our meetings and less than four people does seem small. I'm happy to reschedule if we can. A week or so later would work perfectly for me... What do the rest of you think?

Gang, I would love to be at this Meetup but my sister from Australia is arriving that afternoon and only staying a few days. I'll have to pass on this unless the date changes (which I don't expect, but would love). I will see you for the next one. Please just let me know the date and the book.

BTW, Nana, I have just read Night Film by Marisha Pessl (who you mentioned). It was amazing!! See you all soon,

    Kate X

A sister arriving, from out of the country, is an important event. Life happens, and during the course of a year, each of us will probably have some sort of conflict. Sorry you won't be there Kate.

      Thanks for your understanding, Doug.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
