3 Hour FRIDAY Morning Hike -- Tennessee Valley to Green Gulch and back.

We're getting in shape! If we hike at a fairly strong intermediate pace over 3 hrs, we can potentially burn 1000 calories. Way Cool! The hike is about 6 miles with an elevation change of about 1000' mostly on fire roads. We'll be going up, down, up and down again. Your thigh, butt, calf, lower back and hip muscles will probably feel it a bit the next day--all good! Bring water, snacks, sun screen, sunglasses and hat (I'm an optimist), real hiking shoes, layers, wind protection, possibly gloves and hiking poles for those complaining knees--you'll need those poles. We'll hike in drizzle but not in heavy rain. Let me know if I've forgotten some important info. Thankx.

Good morning! Morna I sent you an email, but what do you think at this point about hiking? Susan

Hi Wynette, come and do half the hike, just the first hill. You could return on your own back to the parking lot.

I love the Tennessee Valley, but have never gone over the hill to Muir Beach. As with Chas, I am currently out of shape, know I couldn't do it, would be left in the dust, uh, mud. That's the other thing. Tennesee valley is a dirt trail, gets really muddy. Still, would love to just join for the Tennessee Valley part to the ocean and return. My little dog would LOVE to go along, but I know, no dogs. Boooo

I also appreciated the later posted morning start time, and am now considering coming--- but since made a 1:00 PM appointment, which I would need to cancel. Will also, check w/ Mother Nature, while I'm sure that the hike will be wonderful, if you decide to go! Best 'til later! :-)

    Hi Morna,
Thanks for your message. Yes, I have a flexible schedule - it's just that I have plans for tomorrow. I do prefer an earlier start time, but want to accommodate the group! I'll look forward to meeting you on the next walk! Have a great time tomorrow! (And, I will be coming up from SF, so if others want to carpool and don't mind the presence of a hypo allergetic pup in the car, I'm happy to drive.)

wow. This would definitely be a challenge for me!!! I'd give it a try if were available, but I'd likely end up by myself... Wish I could be there anyway. It will feel so good when you're done! Enjoy, everyone.

    Hi Morna,

    Hi Morna,

Regularly scheduled hikes on Fri (and maybe other week and weekend days) sounds great. I'm definitely interested. Whatever time you decide on, I'll try to make. (Just depends on work that day.) Thanks!

I changed the starting time!! I appreciate the feedback. Hope that helps...hope to see you at the trailhead!!

Hi, This time no longer works for me. Have fun

Morna - At this point it looks like we may not hike. I (like Bob) would prefer a later start - I am coming from SF and it takes me 30 minutes to get to the bridge at that time of day.

Hi Susan. I understand. I'll change the hike to 11am and let's hope we have a break in the weather. Hope you can make it. morna

Just saw the new time! Thanks Morna. I will make a big effort to attend. If it's really 6 miles it shouldn't take us 3 hours - I'm not in great shape but I hike (4-7 miles) a couple times a month. Susan

A fairly strong pace for OVER 3 hrs? ... Are you guys serious? I'd probably drop dead of cardiac arrest after half an hour!

Hi Bob, could you make 10am on Fridays? I'm planning on group hiking on Fri Dec 7 and 14 as well.

    November 28, 2012

  • Morna

Good suggestions. Let me think about it. I've just starting this activity/event. You sound experienced...all good.

I love dogs! You sound more informed than I. My info must be out dated. Pls bring him/her!

If your Friday hikes begin, say, at 12:30 (because of my meeting at Corte Madera Town Center that ends at noon), I'd enjoy joining you. Same thing for Tuesday. The other days could begin at 6:45 a.m. May I suggest Redwood to Summit, then over Corte Madera Ridge? I'd be happy to lead, if you wish.

Actually, dogs are allowed on several trails in the headlands, including on the lower coastal trail from Tennessee Valley to Muir Beach, and we've walked through Green Gulch before (they are a very accepting community). Wondered if you had a particular perspective on dogs. Perhaps best I plan a dog hike and of course, welcome non-dog owners as well!

Sounds good, even if the weather forecast looks like it will have to be postponed. Unfortunately, making a 9 am start time from Oakland means fighting traffic, so I won't even try. Maybe another time--I like the idea of social groups doing more hikes!

We're trying to do reg hikes on Tues and Fri. We're thinking that the Tues ones will be later; the Friday ones, earlier...weather dependent. Hope we see you!

I would love to do this but I work. How about a weekend hike?
    Thanks!

    November 27, 2012

    • Morna

I'm only doing the week day hikes as there are plenty of existing groups/options. Good luck!

Hi Zoie. Good point. I didn't mention animals. Unfortunately, no pets in the Marin Headlands. Hmmmmm....the only one I know about is Baltimore Canyon which is a pretty hike but dark this time of year---lots of trees, waterfalls. Anyone else have any suggestions?

Wonderful hike! Friday mornings I have a meeting from nine to noon, unfortunately. Besides, it may be a mite wet and muddy; eh? Generally, I enjoy walking when it showers--enjoy it, in fact--but this morning's news spoke of the wind and rain being "relentless" for the next five days. Anyone available Wednesday, December 5? As far as the hour, even earlier works great for me.
As for animals, I suggest calling Green Gulch.

Thanks for the invite 2 join; however, not yet able to commit to
early-ish start time to hike, on that day! Ciao for now....
