Sat., Feb 2, 2013 SF Chinatown Street Fare

  • February 2, 2013 · 11:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

It's year of the snake. People in the old country in the old days would clean the home inside out and decorate with flowers. Flower market is a marker for Chinese New Year. Come join the crowd. Wear comfy shoes, bring cash and put it in an inside pocket with zippers.

This will be my fourth meetup homespun tour because there is so much history to see. We’ll see flowers and tangerine trees for sale, along with the usual sundries of souvenirs. This event will be  crowded with wall to wall street fare goers.

Cost is $15 cash towards lunch fund, remainders will be divided equally.

I really enjoyed today's outing. Thanks Ling for arranging and guiding us. When visitors come to the Bay area, I always take them through Chinatown. Now I realize how much I didn't know about.

Fantastic! Ling was actually raised in Chinatown; so she really added a personal touch. She knows a lot of Chinese history, customs, and symbols. We had great dim sum and Peking Duck.
Everyone was so friendly. What a great day.

Montgomery is the station. Look up Bart and find path to Chinatown. I haven't been to Chinatown in so long. My son lives in China. Thank Gos he moved from Beijing and now is in Shanghai!

What's the Bart station? Thinking driving is a bad idea.

Final message, expect huge crowds. Street fair is well publicized. Might not end up eating at Asia Garden as planned as many restaurants will be packed. Also, too many tourists means you likely might not get your fortune told at the Buddhist temple. My only requirement as host is that our lunch be a communal experience and the bill divided equally. 1. Bring $15 cash, 2. Bring your own shopping bag, 3. Keep an open mind because you will be in a different world. Oh, 4. This is a meetup event so do make an effort to speak with each and every person. BE ON TIME. You have my number to call if needed.

Hello a former member. Sorry for not writing sooner, I'm on the road. I'm not a techie so please call me at[masked] to iron things out. I will strive to make you happy. The Feb trip has no waiting list because I'm not a professional tourguide but rather an enthusiastic insider who appreciates history and want to share my heritage.

Hi Gabriela, the organizer Edwin was more than gracious in helping me set up events. I suggest you contact him directly if you want to host any events. You don't need to waste time waiting for me. I do what I can when I can. I'm glad this event is generating interest and there's always room for leaders. Ling
