We have a number of new members so I wanted to send out an email providing the RSVP policy for the group (and a refresher for those who have been in the group for a while)
Accurate RSVPs are very important for two reasons-
If you RSVP yes, as there are only 20 spots per meeting, you are taking a spot that could go to someone else. People are automatically added to a waiting list and, as people change their RSVPs, the list automatically updates and moves people off the waiting list to the "Yes" list. If you are a no show the night of the meeting, or you wait until an hour or two before the meeting to change your RSVP (and it isn't an urgent situation), you have prevented someone who may have wanted to attend from doing so.
I also use RSVP counts when making the reservations at the venues. When there are a number of no shows (which there were several last night) the venues are going to be less likely to allow a reservation for a large group in the future. Thankfully, the venue wasn't busy last night but that is not always the case.
As a reminder:
- One no show means you are ineligible to nominate books for future book polls.
- Three no shows means automatic removal from the book club.
In order to avoid either of the above, please make certain you are not RSVP'ing Yes if you are pretty certain you won't be able to attend. If you do RSVP Yes, and your plans change, please make sure to update Meetup ASAP so that the waiting list can be updated accordingly. Attendance is taken with each meet up and you will be marked as a no show if I don't hear from you.
If you end up on the waiting list, please make certain Meetup emails are not going to your SPAM folder as you should be receiving an email from Meetup when you are bumped off the Waiting list in to the Yes list. If you are bumped up to the Yes list and are a no show, you will be held to the same rules above.
We have a wonderful group going, and I have truly enjoyed meeting, and getting to know everyone. Lets keep that momentum going by keeping the above in mind.
Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions.
