If you're looking to start an apparel manufacturing business, you've come to the right place. The purpose of this group is to direct people to the resources they need in order to gain knowledge about creating a successful apparel or sewn products venture. There will be invitations to classes and lectures about how to write a business plan, how to approach resources you need in order to get your product developed and finally mass-produced in S.F. or Oakland. There will also be real world advice on what to avoid as a fledgling manufacturer in the Bay Area.
If you are looking to provide services like PR, photography, modeling, software sales or fashion styling this won't be the group for you either as your work is not needed until the the absolute final stages of this type of business and there is a lot to do before a new manufacturer or designer reaches that stage. I'm willing to collect your names as a resource for later in the year.
This group will also have *nothing* to do with portfolio reviews, fashion shows, photography, magazines, shopping, blogging, retailing, fashion styling, full-package garments, offshore production or online sales technology. If you are looking to purchase or sell those services or events, there are other meetup groups where you can find them or customers for your products. Please keep in mind that 1) the market will decide what will sell and no single person is an arbiter or final judge of what defines "fashion" or what the public wants to buy (think "Snuggies" or "Crocs") 2) anyone who tries to sell you any services before you have a physical and viable product to sell is putting the cart before the horse or trying to take money from you that should be put in your business first 3) fashion shows are supposed to be filled with retail store buyers and media. If the audience is composed of people who cannot buy or promote your line, ask yourself if it's worth the work.
Now that I have all that out of way, this is the new Fashion Entrepreneurs group.
