An aspiring model and stylist and a sociology major at the University of Maryland.
I have always been passionate about social causes, hence my major. I have volunteered and worked for many organizations, primarily those that concern women's and children's issues. This spring I'll be going on an Alternative Break to work with domestic violence survivors in the DMV and in Tennessee and I absolutely cannot wait. I may just be a college student, but I want to be able to do all that I can to move this world at least a little forward, rather than sit back and watch. I have worked on many issues from environmental to social justice, but the two issues that have always deeply bothered me are the extremely large amounts of gender inequality, as well as the incorrect and debilitating social stigmas regarding mental illness. One directly affects me, the other directly affects the ones I love. Regardless, we are all affected by negative social attitudes. I want to work toward getting rid of these attitudes all together.
As I've been told by friends and peers, I tend to be drawn to things unlike the ordinary or popular. While my style is constantly evolving, drawing inspiration from my changing environments, I've noticed I tend to be drawn toward quirky, vintage, and sometimes grungy looks. But I rarely stick to one type of style; I prefer to mix and match it up. You can see me pair a lacy night gown with cut off jeans and combat boots, or match a frilly pink dress with a studded belt, or wear a bright floral kimono style cardigan over a skin tight party dress. I never stick to one look!
As a new Meetup member, I can provide the modeling and event volunteering. But eventually I hope to be able to be a wardrobe stylist, and help fund-raise and plan events as well. Hopefully very soon!
