At our last meeting where we discussed "Unbroken," the topic of eugenics came up, and I told everyone I would post a link to Buck v. Bell, the 1927 Supreme Court decision upholding a Virginia statute requiring mandatory sterilization for the mentally retarded. The case arose from a petition filed by a doctor to sterilize 18-year-old Carrie Buck, a patient at the "Virginia State Colony for Epileptics and Feeble Minded."
