Lunch for the children and families of Ronald McDonald House

Time: 11:00AM - 12:00NN - Prepare Lunch

12:00NN to 1:00PM - Lunch

1:00PM to 2:00PM - Playtime with kids / And clean up time

The mission of Los Angeles Ronald McDonald House is to provide comfort, care and support to children and families in Southern California.

Families travel from around the world (volunteers who speak another language are very much welcome!) to bring their children to CHLA for its world renowned treatment of pediatric cancer and bone marrow transplants. The LARMH provides these families with inexpensive, and often free, lodging close to their child's place of treatment. The House also serves as a haven of hope where families can share experiences and offer comfort to each other.

We will be providing lunch for approximately 90 people (30 kids and 60 adult) and after lunch an hour of games with prizes (does not have to be expensive, a little prize for the kiddos that are undergoing treatments/away from home) or a loot bag for 30 (approx.) kids.

**PLEASE NOTE: IF YOU ARE SICK, FEELING SICK, OR EVEN THINKING YOU ARE SICK, WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE YOU...BUT THINK OF THE KIDS THAT ARE SUSCEPTIBLE TO JUST A little VIRUS**

Take a look at their facility: http://larmh.org/FacilityDemo.html

We will be serving approximately 50-60 adults and 20-30 kids. Please sign up to bring an item. We'll be making chicken (or tofu) teriyaki bowls with steamed or stir fry veggies and a side of fruit.

- Fruit (whatever is in season)

- Chicken to grill in their outdoor grill

-  Tofu to stir fry (if people don't eat meat)

- Teriyaki sauce for the chicken and tofu

- Vegetables to add to the meal like carrots, bok choy, celery, onions, spinach.

- Brown rice

- White rice

- A dessert like cupcakes or cookies

- Water

- Coffee

- Juice

- Big Bowls

- Cups

Condiments like salt and pepper are available in their kitchen

Games to Play: Suggestion please (if board game, please bring the game)

Claudia mentioned that street parking is available, but they also have a lot behind the building. No need to bring utensils (they are pretty much equipped). Just check-in at front and they will direct them at the kitchen. I will make sure that I am on-site at 11AM.

  • Kandi

I'm bringing a fruit bowl. How many people will be there?

    2 · September 19, 2013

    • Molly S.

Its tough to say how many because the patients families come and go as they are in and out of the hospital visiting. I think it'll be roughly 50 people. Someone else will also bring fruit. Please let us know if you're bringing a small medium or large bowl. Thanks!!

Hi Molly, I see that no spots are left! That'll teach me to procrastinate! If anything opens up, I'd love to bring my 2 teenager sons to help out too for a total of 3 of us. Please let us know if 3 spots open up for volunteers.

    Blessings always!

I have a almost 2 year old toddler that I am caring for. Is there a way I can take him and still volunteer?

    September 9, 2013

    • Molly S.

Yes children are allowed Mac. However the hospital asks that if you or any volunteer is sick that day please decline. Thanks!!

      September 15, 2013

    • Mac S.

Thanks for the response! Looks like this event is already filled, so I will wait for the next one.

  • Birgitte

Hi everyone. This is my first time doing this. Is there anything I need to know? How's the parking situation?
    I will bring dessert.

    September 14, 2013

    • Molly S.

Hi Birgitte. Thanks for joining. I will let Charms reply about parking. Its a hospital so I'm sure there's plenty of parking but let's see how Charms directs us.

    • Charms

We are going to one of the Ronald McDonald House that provides lodging to families of children that are seeking treatment at Children's Hospital, etc. Parking is street parking or behind the lot of the house. Hope to see you there.

What's the cross street to this McDonald House? I live close to Fountain. I plan on cooking the rice at my house in the morning and it should still be hot when I get there.
