Interbay Corridor Walk

Is Interbay at a crossroad in history? The valley between Magnolia and Queen Anne is home to trains, industrial yards, and a busy traffic corridor, but it is also home to multi-family homes, parks, trails, and many unique businesses. Since the railroads and ports established Smith Cove for industry, Interbay has been growing and slowly changing.

Come join Interbay resident Adam Slivers as he shares some of Interbay’s industrial history as well as it’s newest buildings and plans for even more. Learn more about Interbay’s well-known places and find some that are waiting to be discovered.

Hello walkers! I just wanted to offer a chance for some feedback. Feet First would like to know if there were any areas of the walk that felt unsafe or could be improved. Please comment here.

As far as the land use study, the city has proposed to rezone some areas to Industrial-Commercial, from Industrial General, among other smaller changes. You can see their recommendations here: http://buildingconnections.seattle.gov/2013/04/12/ballardtointerbay/
    Take their survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/ballardtointerbay

Finally, I posted my walking map (https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=200446498053876250433.0004d1dac181e5317ead1&msa=0)
and my script with photos (https://docs.google.com/document/d/13nDRZ7St0G5ncsWKhEz2MSk_lcgzqu-PpZSVs0U9kgQ/edit?usp=sharing)
online so you can refresh your memory.

    Happy Trails!

Thanks again Adam for organizing!! We had some great conversations- people really care about this area. Interested in the future of Interbay? Keep up with the land use study Adam mentioned by signing up for updates on the webiste (see below). I'll also be at the Ballard Transit Expansion Study Community Meeting (Tuesday March 12 at Ballard HS 5-7pm) so maybe see you there. Walking and transit go well together- don't you think?

Thank you Adam for the guided tour! As a native, I can't say I've ever been down 14th Ave!

I enjoyed the people. I thought Andy did a great job! Learned about an area I don't know a lot about.

What an enjoyable, informative and relaxed-paced urban walk. Adam did an absolutely outstanding job in giving us history and hidden secrets of this Interbay area. Said hello to lots of wonderful folks... shared brownies... took tons of photos... and even learned the correct pronunciation of the words: 'merry', 'marry', and 'Mary'. Enjoy the photos.

Even though I drive that stretch of road often, walking it today I noticed things that I would never see while in the car. Heard interesting background history and future plans for the area too.

For those of us driving, I can't recall if you can park on the street in that area? I assume leaving our cars in the WF parking lot for the duration of the walk isn't, well, courteous?

    March 10, 2013

    • Suzy H.

There is no street parking on 15th and side streets are pretty limited in that area. The parking lot is rather large as there are other shops. I think if we park at the far edge we would be OK.

A chance to go see La Boheme came up -- so I am going! Enjoy your walk and I hope the weather holds for you!

Additional comment about ride sharing. If no one is in the Fremont or Ballard area I could come via East Lake, Denny, so that would include anyone in the Lake Union Area and Queen Anne. It is easy for me to either come across the south end of Lake Union or around the North End.

I will be coming from the U District. If there is anyone that needs a ride in the area of the U District, Fremont, and Ballard, I can pick you up. I have a Kia Soul and have room for 3 people, 4 if one is small, just connect me by Saturday evening.

How long is the walk expected to be?

    February 17, 2013

    • Darcy E.

Adam said the walk should be about 2 hours, although he will provide an optional early stopping point in case it takes longer than expected. Thanks!

What is the distance of the walk?

    February 16, 2013

    • Helen L.

Sorry for the slow response- I'll be able to confirm tomorrow!

      February 19, 2013

    • Darcy E.

I just talked to Adam, the walk is about 4 miles. He did mention that there will be an optional stopping point earlier than the 4 miles just in case the walk takes longer than expected. Thanks!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
