Fellowship of the Tortoise is a group specifically for slow hikers! All members profile names and photo must meet the approval of the organizer; see welcome message for details. Please briefly explain why you want to be a fellow tortoise!
The hikes that you offer look great! I work in Marlborough and am very interested in hiking at cedar hill after work.
Hi! I live in southern New Hampshire and enjoy hiking.
This is a hiking group for people who, like me, hike at a slow and steady pace. I love the outdoors and I love hiking, but am often lagging behind. However, like the tortoise, I keep a steady pace and always get there in the end. We will do mostly medium-length hikes ( 4 - 6 miles) with elevation gains of under 1500 feet and a pace of book time +50%. Most hikes will be within a couple of hours drive from Worcester (there is another MeetUp for slower hikers that does hikes in White Mountains) but we may venture farther afield on occasion. Most hikes will be kid-friendly. This group is for ANY age. Older people who have slowed down, younger folks who are just starting out, people who are overweight and want to get moving, people who are recovering from an injury, people who occasionally like to stop and take pictures or smell the roses...anyone who wants to hike at a slower pace. Most hikes will be on weekends, but during school vacations there may be some weekday hikes. Hikes will take place all year round; a list of recommended gear will be posted.
