This month we will examine the work of singer and songwriter Judy Collins.

Last month we discussed Leonard Cohen.  I brought a favorite poem by Cohen, The Sisters of Mercy, from Judy Collins's album Wild Flowers.  I wanted to share a couple of other lyrics from the album and so volunteered to host a discussion of her work.

She has a lovely voice and presentation but we will focus on her lyrics as poetry along with some biographical information.  For those who are interested here is a link to her website with lyrics and photographs.

I will choose several of the lyrics to share along with Albatross and Since You Asked from the Wild Flowers album to read at the meeting.

I hope to see you there.

    Something to celebrate Spring:

    in Just –
    ee cummings

    in Just-
spring when the world is mud-
    luscious the little
    lame balloonman

    whistles far and wee

    and eddieandbill come
    running from marbles and
    piracies and it’s

    when the world is puddle-wonderful

    the queer
    old balloonman whistles
    far and wee
    and bettyandisbel come dancing
    from hop-scotch and jump-rope and
    balloonMan whistles
