Building Online Cred

Poornima’s coming back to the Bay Area after teaching on the East Coast at Duke University for the past 4 months to host the final Femgineer Forum for 2013 sponsored by @WalmartLabs!

Poornima will be continuing on the theme of building your “street cred” that Karen Catlin talked about in October’s forum. This time she’ll focus on building your cred online!

As technical women we spend much of our days building products, but don’t always take the time to talk about what we’ve built or showcase our accomplishments online or in social channels. Part of the reason is we’re a little bit shy and humble, but the other part is that we just don’t have the time! Ultimately, we have to strike a balance between being heads down, and coming up for air give ourselves a much needed pat on-the-back and showing the engineering community our work.

In this Femgineer Forum Poornima will talk about the importance of branding yourself: online and in professional settings where a woman’s POV is not always dominant. She will also walk you through some simple strategies you can use to make a mark on LinkedIn, Github, and other social sites where engineers often have visible profiles and women may not know or feel comfortable about showcasing their talents and accomplishments.

Poornima will share her story of how she found her voice and established her brand through her roles as the founding engineer at, being a CEO of a startup, and into her current roles as an Adjunct Professor at Duke in the Pratt School of Engineering and Founder of Femgineer.

Out of respect to our sponsors, we ask that recruiter please not attend.

Getting to Walmart Labs:
BART or CALTrain shuttle access from 5pm to 8:45pm to the local station.

50-60 parking spots in the visitor area and unlimited parking in the garage below 850 Cherry. Elevator access to the 1st floor.

There are no special codes to get in, just bring ID to validate registration and be prepared to sign a standard guest NDA upon entry.

Wonderful talk. I was already familiar with most of what was discussed, but it was good to be able to assess my knowledge. There was excellent feedback and mutual support during the exercise sessions.

Left feeling much more confident in building my online cred not to mention speaking with Poornima and all the attendees was very motivating. Can not wait to see what January holds.

Poornima, something popped up at the last minute and I won't be able to attend this. My apologies for the late notice but please free up my spot in the eventbrite list so that someone else can attend! Your talks are always great.

I am so disappointed to have to miss this one. The Street Cred meetup was a game-changer for me and encouraged me to consider attending my first hackathon... which I did a few days later at Linkedin... at the ripe old age of ...let's just say over 30 and leave it at that! Definitely worth the time and effort to attend.

Just want to confirm... Can we take a shuttle bus from BART to Walmart Labs starting at 5pm? That is what I am planning and hoping it will be easy to find the shuttle at the San Bruno BART station.

I just checked on the Eventbrite site and it gives info on how to find the shuttle so I'm good. Looking forward... :)
