Finance for Femgineers

We all want to keep our skills sharp and up-to-date, transition into new roles, or even start a project or business on the side. This means constantly educating ourselves, and sometimes that requires getting approval from our supervisors, going through a retraining program or pursuing a higher degree, which can be expensive!

In this upcoming Femgineer Forum we are going to talk about how you can present projects to get them approved within your current company. Plus present resources that are available to help you finance the cost of retraining programs, and provide you with some approaches to funding project your business on the side.

You’ll learn:

• About new sources of funding

• How to leverage internal resources and how to handle any push back from your boss

• The steps to funding a project or business on the side

AGENDA

6-7pm Networking and a light dinner
7-8pm Presentation
8-9pm Break out session to help you practice the strategies with peers

DIRECTIONS

It should be fairly straightforward to get to Google Ventures Startup Labs (address is listed above). There will also be volunteers present upon arrival to help you get in.

Thanks for a great event! I got inspired. First Anna talked about Upstart and her courageous decision to leave Google to join Upstart. Next, Poornima presented how to pitch a project to the management team. I especially like her points on asking for time, getting feedback, and gathering objections. After that, we were divided into small groups and everyone was so supportive. Finally, we reconvened and two of us presented our ideas and got valuable feedback from the group. I talked about integrating MOOC study group and Toastmasters:

The team gave me a lot of great suggestions.

In sum, the event was not only educational but also an opportunity to meet great people.

I'm not going to be able to make it. I freed up the spot for someone on the waitlist. I will keep an eye out for the slides. I was really interested to see this topic, sad to be missing it.

I'm so bummed I won't be around to attend this one! I'm hoping for shared slides, but it'd be even cooler if a video was made available :)

I have a great video camera and I can record the session. I'll also put it on our blog at mymoneybutler.com so others can benefit.

Are there any case studies or FP&A analysis included in the break out session?

    February 12, 2014

    • Poornima

That is a great question Tishya! Unfortunately our break out sessions last about 30 minutes, which is a little too short to have you practice it in it's entirety. I will provide some high level guidance during my talk for sure.

    February 1, 2014
