Book Vote/Group discussion

Hi Everyone!

A few things about this meeting

Bring one book title to nominate and we will vote on the next few month's selections.  Also I need to get some feedback from the group about your interests, to help plan for the next year.

If time permits we will discuss anything you may want to share under the broad topic of feminism/gender/lgbtq. It can be anything at all that you saw, read or heard and caught your attention!

Still collecting any extra dollars for our dues.

Thank you!

Message me with any questions or comments or post it on the meeting rsvp page.

Perspective on The Girls of Atomic City: A friend of mine finished it very unimpressed. She says it was, although factual, extremely boring. It read something like, " the girls did what their Dads, husbands and boyfriends told them to, went to work each day, then went out to parties at night, never questioning any of this or thinking for themselves. She feels it has anti-feminist ambience. If she is right, we could look at this book as yet another example of how women thought and behaved back then. I am not suggesting it be taken off the list. Just adding to the discussion.
    Cheers!

If you have some time prior to the book club, you may want to check out this podcast interview with Abigail Bray. She is interviewed for Feminist Current regarding a book I really want to read called Misogyny Reloaded. Thanks!

Is it me or is rape culture and campus rape in the news a lot this week? AND, anyone else going to Slut Walk July 12th @ noon?

Many universities are under fire presently due to crappy or non-existent reported rape policies.People like George Will (this week) are writing asinine and uninformed columns denouncing "rape culture" as they put it. Luckily many feminist bloggers are fighting back with their own columns!

I had not heard about this book, but I've read the story she mentions about a man telling her about a Very Important Book she needed to read...which she WROTE. If this book is half as good as that one story, it's a winner. Thank you for sharing this!!
