Game of Thrones Book Club?

Who else has read/watched A Game of Thrones? Would anyone be interested in having a free for all book club meetup to talk about the series, the show, the desperate fear that George RR Martin will die before he finishes writing the end? Maybe at a coffeeshop, or a bar so we can drink wine like we're Tyrion Lannister!

This was fun - I'm looking forward to GoT v 2.0!! And great recommendation for the location Effie - Ashker's was really cool (great drinks too)!

    What's "Game of Thrones?"

I can't commit to GoT and Hamlet in same day. Whatever y'all decide will be fine though.

Ah, I think this would be so much fun! I have watched all seasons of the show and read books 1-4. I'm holding out on book 5 because I hate the 5 year gap that good ol George just loves to do in between books.

I had no idea of the delay when I got into Song of Ice and Fire. I thought it was a five book series and lets just say I feel foolish now for flying through them.

    Noooooo! 6/29 is Hamlet...,,

I read the first book 3 times since it first came out. Unfortunately I'll be in the ride for roswell that morning then off to a birthday party for a family member.

Hopefully you did not have to push it back a week because of something bad. This is the same day as Hamlet though, so there may be a conflict for some people that were planning on attending both events. Me... I could not go to Hamlet on the 29th because of a graduation party for my nephew in the afternoon and a 30th birthday party for a friend in the evening. The summer weekends tend to get busy with things. I guess people in buffalo have to cram all the outdoor things in like weddings and such in the few nice weather summer months... because we all know... winter is coming... yeah...bad joke lol It's rough for hermit types like myself though :)

Welcome to the group! With everyone just coming off reading GoT I'm going to have to get on rereading it so I can keep up!

Has anyone finished A Clash of Kings? I have a question about one of Theon's chapters.

This might be a fun time to try Pausa Art House ... http://www.pausaarthouse.com/index.html

hmm, though looking at their hours (which are fairly limited) it might not work. I am also a HUGE fan of Ashker's Juice Bar on Elmwood. They have a lot of wonderful seating areas and such a nice vibe. http://www.yelp.com/biz/ashkers-juice-bar-and-cafe-buffalo

      Ashkers sounds good to me.

So we have a date and time - great! Are we leaning toward Ashkers then?

I am free either Thurs. night or Sat, but I think we need a location. Where ever we choose, let's make sure it has easy parking.

Kristen, would this be for the first book or all? Personally, Saturday afternoons would be ideal. Thursday isn't good me.

Did you see last nights episode?

I have been watching the series and this is a great excuse to start the books. Just let me know when the first meeting is and hopefully I will have finished the book by then

I'm half-way through the first book and can't believe how closely the series has followed it. I'm very surprised by it. Can't wait to finish it and start the second!!

The first season was pretty faithful to the book and the flow. It starts getting a little different with season 2 and then more with season 3 with extra screen time for some characters and moving things around. At least from what I remember.

I've had the first book sitting unopened on my shelf for a while now and I think its about time I start it!

Hello Kristen! Then I shall start it tonight!

      May 27, 2013

  • Gina

I watch the show and have the books. I'm not sure how it would work discussing one over the other. I would hate to find out what happens later in the series. I'd be up for something GoT. Such a great show!!

    May 25, 2013

  • Steve G

I'd be up for some GoT discussion (pending time and place of course). I'm more books than show though - I'm avoiding the series until the books wrap up (which would be half past never at this rate).

I've actually decided to hold off on reading the books as I have been watching the series with some other people that have not read the books so I wanted to enjoy the show with them and not know what will happen. I stopped reading with book 4. But I'm a huge George RR Martin fan since I read his short stories when I was in college and his contributions to the Wildcards series. I'd be interested in a book talk about GoT, but I echo the idea that it depends where. I guess that requires some brain storming :)
