Sci-Fi Night @The Screening Room

Equilibrium (Christian Bale) and Forbidden Planet (the original). These are two really good movies and will be great on the Big Screen. I must have gotten confused at the previews last time, because they showed a Gary Sinise space movie and I thought it was for this double feature. I hope this doesn't change anyone's mind.  There is also Trivia questions where you can win prizes during intermission. It should be a lot of fun. I hope you can make it. If we have enough people I will call ahead and reserve a table.

This was a really fun evening (even if the MC completely ignored my attempts to answer trivia questions - I should of had enough latinum to retire early!). Great snacks too - although obtaining them was a bit of a challenge :)

Mark - is was fun and please don't mind my grousing (I like to joke around; it's all good). Sadly I don't know the answer to that question :( I mean I could do some internet research but then the latinum would rightfully belong to google...

Hey Steve. No worries. I hope to meet you August8. 7PM Gattaca and then the 1951 version of The Day The Earth Stood Still. For the answer to the question see this Youtube link: http://www.youtube.co...

Two really fun movies and I also love the trivia part of the night. I am looking forward to August 6th

PS- I saw the comment from Steve G and felt kind of bad about it, so I sent him a question.

It was so nice meeting you too. I will be posting the next Sci-fi Night as well. Thanks for the info. I forgot to grab a flyer when I was there. Hopefully Steve G. will come next time and you will be able to get to him then. Take care and I look forward to seeing you next time.

This was awesome! I didn't get to see the first movie from the beginning. I did get to see a great Gun Fu scene! The trivia was hard… well hard for me! I just think everyone there was using more than 20% of their brain like I was. The host was good! Forbidden Planet was good. I am not sure if what we laughed at would have been what the makers of the film wanted but still very fun for us! Met a guy from a Time Travelers club! Next time I am going to ask more about it. Who knows maybe I can join it. If that wimp Wesley Crusher can join so can I! ;-P

    July 12, 2013

    • Steve G

Wesley Crusher was a time traveler? Why was I not informed?!??

      July 13, 2013

    • Alberto V.

Who knew! Yes, he most certainly did! ;-)

I feel awful, but I'm going to have to cancel on tonight. My freelance work is picking up way too fast and I'm swamped. (As is my "personal assistant" Ryan.) :/ Working like mad to get caught up so I don't have to keep ditching on things!

This looks like a fun night and idea, unfortunately my Monday and Thursday evenings are busy for the next couple months. Have fun everyone.

    I'm sorry I can't make it tonight!! :(

  • Alberto V.

maybe... got kickball... will try and get out early.

    July 8, 2013

  • Andrea

I'm more of a "maybe" again. Sigh.

    • Steve G

Looks like you need some more 'convincing'. Come onnnnnnn... everybody's doing it; don't you want to be COOL?!??? Ahhh peer pressure, what CAN'T you do??

You can arrive in between the movies, but I don't know how long Equilibrium is. I would say it is 1hr 40mins. Also I don't know if only seeing one lessens the tix price or not. I do know people have arrived late. It is just hard to see where you are going in the dark.

    July 7, 2013

  • Andrea

What is the agenda, in case i cannot get there by 7? Is there a "next best time"to arrive, say between movies? Or is it ok to arrive late?

    July 7, 2013

  • Mark

Kathryn, I'm working on questions now. It's harder than it seems. I had some tough questions last time around and wow everyone got them all! The movies cost more to show theatrically this time (mainly Forbidden Planet is more than Rocketship XM), so trivia prizes will be little discount coupons off of concessions. Thanks for organizing and hosting this up on FNP You're helping to make this a success. I'm an advocate for this genre and exposing good science fiction that may have been looked over. I also love the classics. I'm going to keep these going once a month (while in town and long distance) as long as people want to come. I'll see you there.

Oh Man, Mark I didn't know you were the Mark organizing the event at the Screening Room itself. I thought you were part of the Posse. I am the one who posted your event on our Posse calender. I had a great time at the last one and I am looking forward to next week. Don't worry I will call ahead for our table...You don't have to make our reservation. :) I am also looking forward to the trivia as well. Take care and I look forward to seeing you there.

Mark I posted this meetup and I thought I was hosting this. Are you going to get us a table? If not let me know so I can reserve it. Looking forward to seeing everyone.

It's Mark, I'm hosting the thing. I read the comments and sorry for any confusion about the second movie for those who came to the first Sci-fi Night. I was trying to get the rights to show a lesser-known film, but one that's great sci-fi. It's called Imposter with Gary Sinise. I couldn't get it for this month so I went with a classic: Forbidden Planet. This is the one with Robby the Robot and is the pinnacle of 1950's sci-fi! They'll be classic fun trailers from bad sci-fi movies and some trivia during intermission (I have discount concession coupons for right questions). Okay, I hope to see you there.

Wait, Ryan's coming? I'm going to need a couple bodyguards to help protect my tiara. :)

Kathryn and Steve, you convinced me :). I'll try to make NYC happen a different day!

Might be in Nyc for work. Will change back to yes if not!!

I just updated the info on this page. So just to let everyone know...Forbidden Planet is the original. Sorry about the confusion. I hope it doesn't change anyone's mind on coming. I am going to call ahead and get a table for us day of the show.

    June 29, 2013

  • Steve G

I'm going to try and make this - seems fun. And the fact that the second movie is apparently a mystery only adds to the appeal

Love The Screening Room--we used to go to their Grindhouse Nights all the time, but it's been a while. Looking forward to sci-fi and trivia!

I went to last Sci Fi Night and it was a lot of fun. I even won a couple of prizes. I hope people can make it. Being the Sci-Fi Junkie I thought this would be the perfect geeky thing to do. Admission is $10. I really don't know how to spread the word. So if anyone is interested sign up so it can be announced to the group.
