Hello Film Clubbers,
Happy New Year to everyone, active and new members alike. 2014 marks a new season for our little series of meet ups. With the new cycle comes a fresh start to our creative goals and personal growth as filmmakers and storytellers. Are you already full of ideas for new projects, or determined to learn that filmmaking skill to get you to the next level? Did finishing that script, editing that footage or taking that acting class make it into your new year's resolutions? If so, then this upcoming Film Club meet up is for you.
Join us on Thursday, January 30, 2014 @ 7:00pm
Meet others who share your goals and determination to make them happen.
We'll start the evening off by getting caught up with each other, introducing new members and discussing the year ahead.
Following this we will introduce our first practical exercise of the new year:
Scene Study: How to approach filming a scripted scene from rehearsal to "action!" to "cut and print!". Stay tuned for more on this. For our next two meet ups we will use an existing script to break down a scene, rehearse, set up, block and shoot it. The "scene" is the basic unit of filmmaking, repeated over and over until all the pieces of the puzzle are assembled. By refining our skills within the scene, we learn the entire filmmaking process in a nutshell. An expanding and infinitely large nutshell mind you.
Time permitting we are excited to finish the meeting with a screening of the two films produced by Film Club in 2013.
First, we'll see "Ryan & Lola's Adventure Board" 30 min. A romantic comedy about starting over and making connections in the 'modern' world.
Next is "Where The Heart Is" 3 min. A horror short written by Adam Andrusiak, a film club member and produced by the club for halloween last year. Check it out below if you haven't seen it already.
In 2013, we pooled our skills and resources to complete two imaginative and professional looking films. For many of us, myself at least, this was a dream come true. This year, if we build on what we have accomplished, there is no telling where our new dreams can take us.
See you there,
p.s. Please note there is a limit of 25 people for this meet up. This is the maximum for our current space which Russell has been kind enough to lend us. If we reach these numbers, never fear, we will arrange a second meeting day for those who miss out.
