The Friends of Finsbury Park have created a wildlife community garden around Manor House Lodge.
We are a small friendly informal group who meet regularly to enjoy gardening on the FIRST SATURDAY OF THE MONTH 10 am - 12.30pm. Everyone welcome.
The garden is behind the Manor House Lodge in Finsbury Park, which is on the left just inside the Manor House Gate to the park by Manor House Tube station.
The Community Garden is a mixture of wildlife areas including a large pond, and herbaceous borders with indigenous flowers. It was set up for local people who perhaps have no access to a garden and who enjoy gardening. It is also used by local primary schools and for team building projects
No expertise necessary.
Please wear appropriate clothes, boots and socks.
Don't forget to be sunsmart! Slip slap slop and wrap - a shirt, a hat, some sunscreen and sunglasses are always a good idea when you're out in the summer sun for a while.
See you there!
The garden was created with local children, volunteers and the Finsbury Park Homeless Families Project. It aims to increase understanding of the environment as well as creating a permanent garden for the community in an area where over 70% of households have no garden.
120 local children from four local primary schools have visited the site and made drawings that helped in the design of the garden. The project was led by the friends of Finsbury Park in partnership with BTCV and Haringey Council. Funding has come from the People's Places Award, SEED, Bridge House Trust and the Woodberry Down SRB
In October seven of us met up to sort out our compost system. We harvested quite a bit of fresh compost, scattered it around the beds and moved the crates out from under the trees to catch the rain. Though the garden is slowing down now, we did a little bit of tidying and mowed the lawn. Read more
