Hike Bug Spring

This is a great one way hike. We will start at the trailhead that is just north of mile marker 11 on the Catalina Hwy and hike back to the parking area that is just past mile marker 7. We will meet and park at the McDonalds that is at the intersection of Catalina Hwy and Tanque Verde at 9am. We will then convoy up to the parking area near mile marker 7 and then take one or two cars with everyone up to the starting point near mile marker 11. I scouted this hike this weekend and it took us 2hours and 22 minutes to cover the 4.3 miles. The hike starts with a pretty steep (400feet in about .4 miles) climb but then evens off and drops back down into some very easy hiking. About half way there is another steep area climbing about 200 feet fairly quickly and then the rest of the hike is very moderate downhill. The overall hike is 4.37 miles Total combined ascent is 768 and total combine descent is 1627 feet. The hike goes through wooded areas, along a creek, along a ridge line, through some rocky areas with really cool rock formations (nothing very scary) and finishes through some grasslands. It is a very interesting and fun hike that just about anyone should be able to do. There are two moderately steep parts but they are stepped with rail road ties not climbing over rocks. Most of the hike is very easy. If you have not ever done this hike, take the time and come out and join us for this short hike. We will be taking our time with plenty of breaks on any of the steeper areas.

We had a wonderful time with the hike and got off trail some exploring. We climbed lots of rocks and had lots of laughs. A good time was had by all! I will be posting pictures!

I have had to make a change to the start time for this hike due to another time conflict. I have moved the start time 3 hours earlier to 9am. I hope works for those that have RSVPed. Thanks! Craig
