You won’t want to miss this one!  This meeting will include some vital information regarding operations at our recently decommissioned class D towers.

After a short (but interesting) meeting regarding our new hangar progress we will have

I am very excited to say Bob Adelizzi, an FPA member, ATC  Grand-master, and favored meeting speaker, has agreed to come speak to us at April’s meeting regarding the upcoming Tower closings (e.g. operations, what to watch out for, and how to keep safe).

Remember, be sure of any changes at your destination and keep in mind not everyone is as proficient at busy non-towered airports as Fitchburg pilots are!

A bit of perspective on all the things Bob Adelizzi said would happen at Lawrence without a tower... Like banner tow operations; planes using both runways; planes crossing a runway to get to another; etc. I used to fly at Lawrence before they had a tower. All of that was happening there then. I never remember a single catastrophe, or even a near-catastrophe. And that was using Unicom, not a discrete CTAF frequency, to coordinate stuff.

I used LWM as an example since I'm more familiar with it. The type and amount of traffic at LWM has changed since you were flying out of there. There was a mid air collision involving a DPE that landed in a school yard. The other pilot died too.

Readers Digest version.. Cirrus aircraft rides were great. Thanks to Skyline and Cliff Alan/Cirrus Aircraft. Bill Grohs recommended we get 1.m smooth whenever we can and to READ your policy or call your agent. Bob Adelizzi advised us to watch out for the pilots who have mostly flown at towered airports with little or no experience in non towered. Also watch when crossing runways and always remember to close your flight plans. Thanks Bob and Bill for your help. Steve Bortle did great and a big thanks to Glen and Kathy R and Gary Archer for cooking.
