Tap into the Qi. We deepen and drop the breath so that the body can move out of "fight-flight" into "rest-relax" mode, open the joints to let circulation and qi move more easily and get the synovial fluid in the joints to "oil" them better, do exercises called flows to tap into the body's natural fluidity and center our energy. There is no goal other than to feel better--more free and in touch with our connection to the world--and this is not a performance--you can't do anything "wrong," so Qigong is very non-judgemental and non-threatening. Although based on Traditional Chinese Medicine, Taoism and Tibetan Buddhism, this is not religious but is based on the philosophy that "flowing water never stagnates; the hinges of an active door never rust" and that tapping into our own energy can help us bring mindfulness and compassion into our daily lives.
