Up, Over, and Around Mt Elden

Hey good people. This is one of many ways to surmount the ominous Mt Elden. My plan is to meet at Late For The Train and carpool either from there or the Y intersection of Schultz Pass / Mt Elden roads.

Hiking will begin where the Buffalo Park trail intersects the Mt Elden Road (just prior to Brookbank TH). We'll take this trail up the forested NW side of Mt Elden to the Sunset Trail. We'll head to the actually peak at the radio towers and have lunch. From there, we'll descend the Mt Elden trail on the southern, rocky, sunny exposure. We'll meet Fat Man's Loop and take it W until we exit it towad the Pipeline Trail (there are other trails along this same route / corridor that we can take (i.e. Forces of Nature Trail, etc) that are generally prettier, maybe a tad longer but get us to the same place. Ultimately, we end up on the fringes of Buffalo Park and can take the trails there which hug the boulder fields on the SW base of Elden. We stroll through forest and eventually get to the start.

So, this is a loop like. It is approx 11 miles in duration. I'd say it is moderate / strenuous. The ascent to Mt Elden's peak can be as high as 2400 vertical feet, but it's a little less from our starting point, and I feel the approach from the backside is also a little easier, more gradual, and more forested. So, it will give your booty a workout but it's not a killer. Descending the southern side of Elden is a bit more challenging in terms of rocky, rootbound, steep trail with sun exposure. It is just a bit more technical and requires careful negotiation. Going from the approximate southern base of Elden back to Buffalo Park's environs and ultimately our vehicle is generally flat with some mild ups and downs and is on the easy / moderate level. However, given this will be end of day and we'll have been soaking up sun, it may be a tiring end.

This is an AWESOME way to bag and circumnavigate Mt Elden. So, do come.

Bring your mothers too!

See y'all.

PS: will meet at Late for Train at 8:30a. Will meet at the Y intersection at 9:00a. Will meet at TH and begin hiking at 9:15a (ish).
